Effects of levamisole hydrochloride on cellular immune response and flock performance of commercial broilers

Abstract: Levamisole hydrochloride (Lev.HCl) has been acclaimed to boost immune response particularly in immunocompromised state. Its routine use as an immunomodulator in poultry production is yet to be well embraced, thus its effects of on cellular immunity and flock performance of commercial broilers were evaluated. One hundred and fifty Anak broiler chicks were separated into two groups of 75 each. Broilers in group 1 were sensitized with 150µg of Staphylococcus aureus antigen each at 4 and 5 weeks, while those in gro… Show more

“…Besides the agonists of PRRs, some chemical compounds also possess immuno-stimulatory capabilities. The levamisole, an imidazole–thiazole group derivate which is an anthelminthic commonly used in veterinary and human medicine, is able to enhance both humoral and cellular immune responses in animal (Oladele et al, 2012). …”

“…LVM increases lymphocytes and boosts the immunity power of the body ( Ludvigsson, 2020 ). Besides, LVM can easily bind with Papaine Like Protease (PL-pro) of the virus which may decrease the severity of COVID-19 ( Oladele et al, 2012 ). This drug can also reduce the expression of TNF α and IL-6, which are responsible for COVID-19 pathogenesis.…”
