Children’s use of electronic media, including Internet and video gaming, has increased dramatically to an average in the general population of roughly 3 h per day. Some children cannot control their Internet use leading to increasing research on “internet addiction.” The objective of this article is to review the research on ADHD as a risk factor for Internet addiction and gaming, its complications, and what research and methodological questions remain to be addressed. The literature search was done in PubMed and Psychinfo, as well as by hand. Previous research has demonstrated rates of Internet addiction as high as 25% in the population and that it is addiction more than time of use that is best correlated with psychopathology. Various studies confirm that psychiatric disorders, and ADHD in particular, are associated with overuse, with severity of ADHD specifically correlated with the amount of use. ADHD children may be vulnerable since these games operate in brief segments that are not attention demanding. In addition, they offer immediate rewards with a strong incentive to increase the reward by trying the next level. The time spent on these games may also exacerbate ADHD symptoms, if not directly then through the loss of time spent on more developmentally challenging tasks. While this is a major issue for many parents, there is no empirical research on effective treatment. Internet and off-line gaming overuse and addiction are serious concerns for ADHD youth. Research is limited by the lack of measures for youth or parents, studies of children at risk, and studies of impact and treatment.

Esse trabalho é referente à uma análise de filme, contextualizando os seguintes pontos: impacto que a internet e a tecnologia têm sobre o ser humano; sua relação negativa com a falta de interação e habilidades sociais e como a dependência tecnológica pode afetar as relações afetivas e sociais; sobre o seu avanço devastador e influente, modificando totalmente o mundo atual e como vai contribuir para o futuro. Para a realização desta análise foi utilizado o filme 'HER' (ELA)-lançado em fevereiro de 2014, com o gênero drama, romance e ficção cientifica-, bem como artigos do Google acadêmico, Portal Intercom, Scielo e o livro 'Dependência de internet: Manual e Guia de Avaliação e Tratamento' (obra escrita em 2011, com o objetivo de refletir acerca das influências psicológicas negativas oriundas dos avanços da tecnologia). Ainda não há um diagnóstico estabelecido para a dependência tecnológica, mas é possível constatar o prejuízo que vem arcando com a vida de muitas pessoas. Esse novo fenômeno deve ser discutido, já que vem chamando atenção de profissionais da área da saúde devido ao seu grande impacto desfavorável na sociedade. Podemos concluir que o uso da tecnologia pode beneficiar se usado de forma moderada, enquanto o uso excessivo pode trazer sérios problemas incluindo o adoecimento mental.

Discriminant Profile of Young Internet Dependents: The Role of Family Relationships

Abstract:International studies have shown effects of family relations on Internet addiction in young people. This research aimed to outline a discriminant profile of young people classified as dependent and not dependent on the Internet regarding to sociobiodemographic variables to parenting practices, parent-child conflict and interparental conflict. The sample consisted of 200 students (152 girls and 48 boys), between 15 and 24 years of age, 85.5% reside in Rio Grande do Sul and 14.5% in other Brazilian states. Participants responded individually to the protocol available online. The results showed that interparental conflict, parentchild conflict and the educational practice of supervision of paternal behavior discriminate dependents on Internet. The educational practice of maternal emotional support was the only discriminating variable for non-dependents. These national findings corroborate the international context studies and reinforce the importance of including the family in promotion and prevention of mental health of young people.Keywords: Internet (addiction), parenting style, parent child relations, marital conflict, family relations Perfil Discriminante de Jovens Dependentes de Internet: O Papel das Relações FamiliaresResumo: Estudos internacionais têm apontado repercussões das relações familiares na dependência de internet em jovens. Esta pesquisa buscou traçar um perfil discriminante de jovens classificados como dependentes e não dependentes de internet em relação às variáveis sociobiodemográficas, práticas educativas parentais, conflito pais-filho e conflito interparental. A amostra foi constituída por 200 jovens, com idades de 15 a 24 anos, 85,5% residentes no Rio Grande do Sul e 14,5% em outros estados brasileiros. Os participantes responderam individualmente ao protocolo disponível on-line. Os resultados mostraram que o conflito interparental, o conflito pais-filhos e a prática educativa de supervisão de comportamento paterno discriminam os dependentes de internet. A prática educativa de apoio emocional materno foi a única variável discriminante para os não dependentes. Esses achados do contexto nacional corroboram estudos internacionais e reforçam a importância da inclusão da família nas ações de promoção e prevenção à saúde mental dos jovens.
