Show more

“…The mean valuesfound were 57.96% of TDNe, 59.90% of IVDMD and 4.15% of DDMY (Table 4). Costa et al (2011), studying millet pastures, observed lower TDN contents, reporting a mean of 54.8% of TDN. These values are close to the TDN found in this research.…”

“…The experiments were carried out between 2001 and 2010 and the most individual results can be found as scientific papers (Montagner et al, 2008;2009;Costa et al, 2011;Souza et al, 2011;2012;Oliveira Neto et al, 2013). The rearing of beef heifers was evaluated in Pearl millet (Penisetum americanum (L.) Leeke), Alexandergrass (Urochloa plantaginea (Link.)…”

“…Forage intake was estimated using chromic oxide as an external marker to estimate fecal production. The techniques used are described by Costa et al (2011), Montagner et al (2011) and Souza et al (2011).…”

“…Hitch) has a high potential for producing quality forage and yields productive performance, forage intake and intake of total digestible nutrients similar to those obtained with Pearl millet pasture (COSTA et al, 2011). In the summer, the energetic supplementation for animals in high quality pasture such as Alexandergrass synchronizes the rate of nitrogen supply to ruminants and can improve the utilization of protein from forage, which is rapidly degraded in the rumen, increases microbial protein synthesis, reduces nitrogen losses in the urine and can thus increase animal performance (REARTE;PIERONI, 2001).…”
