Probiotics and antibiotics as additives for sows and piglets during nursery phase

Abstract: -The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the use of probiotics in diets for sows and piglets on performance and morphophysiologic parameters and the incidence of diarrhea in piglets during 28 days after weaning. “…The probiotic was shown to be more efficacious than tylosin and to be as active as doxycycline–gentamicin (da Silva et al., ). Similarly, probiotic products composed by Bifidobacterium bifidum Enterococcus faecium Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus plantarum, when added to diets for sows and piglets, showed the same effect on the incidence of diarrhoea compared to antimicrobial treatments (amoxicillin and colistin) (Silva et al., ).
