Show more

“…Velásquez et al (2010), observed a linear increase in the values of TC in the cutting ages, these results are different from those obtained in the current study, which had a tendency towards the maintenance of the total carbohydrate contents in the grazing cycles. With the exception of the third grazing cycle, which had a tendency towards the reduction of TC values in the components stem and leaf blade.…”

“…In a study with three forage species, Marandu, Tifton 85 and Tanzania under different cutting ages, Velásquez et al (2010) observed a decrease in the fraction of non-fibrous carbohydrates and an increase in the contents of LIG in the cutting ages; these results were similar to those obtained in this study, except for the fourth grazing cycle of the component stem, in which, in this period, there was a discrete increase in the NFC content in relation to the second and third grazing cycles; however, it remained with contents below the first grazing cycle.…”

“…This fraction supplies energy more slowly in the rumen, which may affect the microbial synthesis efficiency and the animal performance (Malafaia et al, 1998;1999). The palisade grass in our study displayed 64% of its carbohydrates as fraction B 2 (Table 5) for periods 1 and 2, respectively, which is close to the values reported by Velásquez et al (2010) in natural grassland conditions in the dry and rainy seasons. The supply of protein sources of slow ruminal degradation will provide a greater input of amino acids into the small intestine (Cabral et al, 2000), and allow for greater preservation of the consumed nitrogen in relation to other sources that are more rapidly degraded in the rumen.…”
