ABSTRACT. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro degradation and total gas production of different oil seed press cakes from a biodiesel production chain gas through the use of a semi-automatic technique of gas production in vitro. The treatments consisted of substituting elephant grass in increasing levels, 0%, 30, 50 and 70%, with the byproducts of Gossyypium hirsutum, Ricinus communis, Moringa oleifeira, Jatropha curcas and Helianthus annus. The oil seed press cakes of Moringa oleifeira had the highest rate of in vitro degradation of dry matter compared with other foods but did not result in a higher final volume of gases production. Gossyypium hirsutum, Pinhão manso curcas and Ricinus communis showed a higher in vitro degradability of similar dry matter. The highest total gas production was obtained by the oil seed press cakes of Helianthus annus. The oil seed press cakes of Moringa oleifeira can replace elephant grass up to 70% and therefore reduce both greenhouse gas emissions and energy loss for the animal.

In this work, the potential utilization of the fast pyrolysis to obtain different products from four biofuel biomass wastes, i.e. tucuma and mamonacakes (biodiesel production) and sugarcane strawand bagasse (bioethanol production) is investigated. Elemental analyses, TG, GCMS, mass balance, immediate analyses and calorific power showed that biodiesel cakes produced 17-25 wt% gas based on CO x , H 2 and C 1 -C 2 hydrocarbons, 32-38wt% biochar and 42-45wt% liquids composed of 18-23% acidic aqueous fraction containing high concentration of organics and 22-23% of an oil fraction composed of a complex mixture of organic compounds. The fast pyrolysis of sugarcane straw and bagasse produced 6 wt% gas (mainly CO x ), 6-18 wt% biochar and 25-75 wt% liquid. Based on the obtained information, different possibilities of application are discussed.Keywords: Biomass; waste; biofuel; Brazil; bio-oil; pyrolysis. ResumoNeste trabalho é descrito o potencial de utilização da pirólise rápida como rota para a obtenção de diferentes produtos a partir de quatro rejeitos de biomassa oriundas das cadeias de biocombustíveis no Brasil, i.e. tortas de tucumã e mamona(biodiesel) e palha/bagaço de cana (produção de etanol).Através de dados de análise elementar, TG, CGEM, balanços de massa, análise imediata e poder calorífico, observou-se que as tortas de biodiesel produzem de 17-25% de um gás composto de CO x , H 2 e hidrocarbonetos C 1 -C 2 , 33-38% biocarvão e 42-45% de líquidos, composta de 18-23% de uma fração aquosa altamente ácida e elevada carga orgânica e 22-23% de uma fração oleosa constituída de uma complexa mistura de compostos orgânicos. A pirólise rápida da palha e do bagaço de cana produziu 6% de gás composto basicamente de COx, 6-18% biocarvão e 25-75% de líquidos. Com base nas informações obtidas, diferentes possibilidades de usos são discutidas para as frações obtidas.

The purpose of this work was to evaluate Phorbol Ester's (PE), Total Fenols (TF), Total Tannins (TT), Condensed Tannins (CT), Saponins Content (SPN), amino acids profiles and apparent digestibility of detoxicated Jatropha curcas meal in finishing pigs diets, as well as biogas and methane production by the manure from cross-bred pigs fed this meal. Apparent digestibility coefficients of Dry Matter (DM), Crude Energy (CE), Crude Protein (CP), Crude Fiber (CF) and Ether Extract (EE) were evaluated. Twenty crossbreed pigs with 70±1.95 kg initial weight were allotted in individual metabolic cages, according to body weight in a Complete Randomized Block Design with ten replications per treatment. On the last day of the adaptation phase of the digestibility experiment, the manure were collected and put it in bottles with hydraulic retention time of seven days for further evaluation of biogas and methane produced in liters and liters % of total solids. The content of PE, TF, TT, CT, SPN, were, respectively, 0.06 mg/g, 26.08 and 10.43 equivalent gram of tannic acid, 0.05 equivalent gram of leucocyanidin and 0.005%. The results of apparent digestibility coefficients were 83.80% (DM), 3.500 kcal/kg (CE), 13.45% (CP), 1.5% (CF) and 2.3% (EE). Regarding the generation of biogas and methane of manure from pigs fed detoxified Jatropha curcas meal, biogas production (1201.4, 1089.3 mL/g Total Solids) and methane (246.7 and 218.2 mL/g Total Solids) from manure weren't significantly different (p>0.05) between the treatments. So, concludes that detoxicated Jatropha curcas meal is a promising byproduct due its nutritional composition and metabolic response which may be used in finishing pig diets without affecting the generation of renewable energy.
