“…Progression from condyloma acuminatum to verrucous carcinoma has been previously described 9 , 10. However, the cases presented by Ellsworth et al ,Horner et al and Lewin et al ,1 , 4 and the current case have not shown evidence of human papilloma virus with immunohistochemical analysis of the verrucous lesion.…”

“…Most cases affect the urinary bladder, have been reported in areas where schistosoma is endemic and account for approximately 3% of bladder cancers. The literature reveals only a few cases unrelated to schistosomiasis 1 , 4 , 5. The aetiology of these cases is not known.…”

“…Very few cases of VC of the bladder unrelated to schistosomiasis have been reported in the literature and ours is one. The aetiology of such cases (non-schistosomal) is not known but chronic inflammation of the bladder is found in most of them 4. VC of the bladder has a slight male predilection (1.2:1) with a mean age of 66 years.…”

“…Literature reveals that the parasites can be found within a previously existing pathology in up to 81% of cases most probably representing a kind of locus minoris resistentiae [ 1,2 ] . Regarding the manifestations of bilharziasis in a wart, a papillomatous lesion with koilocytes but without viral DNA confi rmation [ 1 ] and a verrucous bladder carcinoma also displaying koilocytes but negative to HPV DNA by in situ hybridization have been reported [ 6 ] . As schistosomiasis lesions mimicking warts in the vulva have been previously described [ 3 ] , viral DNA confi rmation is necessary to confi rm the coexistence of a viral and a parasitic infection in our case, something previously not demonstrated.…”
