Variations in white blood count, thromboxane B2 levels and hematocrit in chronic venous hypertension

Abstract: Objective: To analyze variations in leukocyte count and thromboxane B 2 production in the femoral vein of patients with chronic venous hypertension (CVH). Design: Prospective clinical study, controlled, non randomized and open. Location: Hospital das Clínicas, Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, referral center, university hospital. Participants: 15 patients with recurring stasis ulcer were analyzed, selected randomly from the venous diseases outpatient center, and 4 without lower limb venous a… Show more

“…As several authors have noted, even in the conditions of short-term venous hypertension, the leukocytes delay in the vessels of the lower limbs and the increase in ICAM-1 content in patients’ plasma with CVI of lower limbs are observed. [2728] Similar changes were observed by Bergan, et al ., but on the model of arteriovenous anastomosis and occlusion of the mesenteric venule in rats. They observed accumulation of leukocytes in the valvate structures and vein walls and the increased ICAM-1 expression of vascular endothelium in the conditions of raised venous pressure.…”

“…It has been shown that leucocytes retrieved from the lower limbs of volunteers and patients with venous disease following venous hypertension undergo activation [I1, 12]. One study has reported the results of venous hypertension on the leucocyte count in the femoral vein [13]. In this paper, patients with chronic venous disease initially lay supine, following which blood samples were taken from the femoral and arm veins.…”
