Synthesis and characterisation of polymeric nanofibers poly (vinyl alcohol) and poly (vinyl alcohol)/silica using indigenous electrospinning set up

Abstract: Indigenous design and fabrication horizontal of electrospinning set up was developed to facilitate with double drum conveyor belt system to make ease in harvesting nanofibers rapidly. As a bench mark study, organic-inorganic nanofiber composite was synthesised employing our indigenous electrospinning set up. The aqueous solution of poly (vinyl alcohol) and poly (vinyl alcohol)/silica sol were employed to produce nanofiber mats in order to vary the experimental parameters such as voltage, solvent effect and the… Show more

“…In the FTIR spectrum of PVA/SiO 2 nanofiber (Figure 2b), the bonds recorded at 941 and 1100 cm -1 derived from vibrations of Si-O and Si-O-Si stretching. The peak at 1248 cm -1 was due to Si-CH 2 , and the vibration of C=O appeared at 1724 cm -1 [5,[18][19][20] . The FTIR Figure 2c shows the characteristic bands for imidazole group vibrations at 1639 cm -1 (C=N stretching), 1248 cm -1 (C−N stretching in the imidazole ring), and 1116 cm -1 (C−N stretching) 21 .…”

“…Recently, several methods were proposed to detect different analytes using camera based devices or field analyzers based on optical techniques at field settings [13][14][15][16]. However, still no prototype was claimed to perform the on site detection of mycotoxins.…”

“…LED based systems have already been explored for sensing of different analytes (hemoglobin, O 2 and available phosphorus in soil) [14][15][16]. The advantages of this instrument are: functional simplicity, low-cost, low power consumption, high stability, efficiency of light production within a narrow wavelengths band, longevity [17,18] and market availability with diverse wavelengths [19].…”

“…However, applications of PVA are limited because of its hydrophilicity. Thus, PVA must be modified to minimize swelling in water when fabricated for especially aqueous applications (Wu et al 2010a, b;Sasipriya et al 2013). Chemical cross-linking by dialdehydes, dicarboxylic acids, or dianhydrides is advantageous because it renders the nanofibers insoluble in all solvents and increases the thermal and chemical properties of the membranes (Bolto et al 2009;Yang et al 2008).…”
