Polyvinyl pyrrolidone-assisted synthesis of crystalline manganese vanadate microtubes

Abstract: Manganese vanadate microtubes have been synthesized by a facile polyvinyl pyrrolidone-assisted hydrothermal route. X-ray diffraction pattern confirms that the microtubes are composed of monoclinic MnV2O6, tetragonal V2O5 and orthorhombic MnO2 phases. The outer diameter and inner diameter of the microtubes are about 300 nm-3 µm and 200 nm-1 µm, respectively. The tube wall thickness of the microtubes is about 50 nm-1 µm. The possible formation process of the manganese vanadate microtubes has been proposed as a p… Show more

“…PVP is a long-chain polymer which may combine and form large micelles at high concentration. 39 As a result, the prepared samples with a high concentration of PVP have a larger pore size because since the PVP is added during sol−gel synthesis, it is possible that a sol− gel structure is formed around the PVP micelles, causing the formation of different holes (or larger spaces) in the silica and composite as well. The mean pore volume increases from 0.558 to 0.676 cm 3 /g as the quantity of PVP increases.…”

“…However, the large content of PVP in the silica matrix leads to a decrease in the specific surface area (the specific surface area of Si-PVP-3 is 170 m 2 /g, and that of Si-PVP-4 is 140 m 2 /g) and simultaneously an increase in the pore size.

“…Transition-metal vanadates related to V 2 O 5 have a tunable oxidation state (MV x O y V 2+ , V 4+ , and V 5+ ) and have gained special attention owing to their unique chemical, electrical, and physical properties along with having a layered structure . The transition-metal vanadates have excellent electron stability and phase transformation ability, as explored by researchers for innovative material construction in significant applications . Although vanadate has good conductivity, electron transfer, and specific surface area, cosynthesizing with another metal leads to improved properties .…”
