PtRu/C electrocatalysts prepared using electron beam irradiation

Abstract: PtRu/C electrocatalysts (carbon-supported PtRu nanoparticles) were prepared submitting water/ethylene glycol mixtures containing Pt(IV) and Ru(III) ions and the carbon support to electron beam irradiation. The electrocatalysts were characterized by energy dispersive X ray analysis (EDX), X ray diffraction (XRD) and cyclic voltammetry and tested for methanol electro-oxidation aiming fuel cell application. The obtained PtRu/C electrocatalysts showed superior performance for methanol electro-oxidation at room tem… Show more

“…The mechanism of this radiochemical method has been described previously. [11,12,23] The typical preparation procedure for the EBIRM and the used materials are given as follows. Hexachloroplatinic acid hexahydrate (H 2 PtCl 6 ¢6H 2 O, Wako Pure Chemical Industries, Japan) and ruthenium trichloride hydrate (RuCl 3 ¢nH 2 O, n D 1À3, Wako Pure Chemical Industries) were used as the Pt and Ru precursors, respectively.…”

“…[11,12] A belt conveyor system using a cart has been adopted for the irradiation, wherein the irradiation time is less than 10 s. Therefore, this method is suitable for the mass production of nanoparticle catalysts. Previously, we reported the synthesis of monometallic nanoparticles on support materials, such as Au/Fe 3 O 4 [12] and Pt/TiO 2 , [13] using an EBIRM.…”

“…Chang et al [142] Silva et al [150] prepararam os eletrocatalisadores PtRu/C para oxidação eletroquímica de metanol. Os eletrocatalisadores PtRu/C foram sintetizados em meio de reação de água/etilenoglicol, utilizando feixe de elétrons para irradiação, que permite uma alta dose (kGy) dentro de alguns minutos.…”
