Synthesis and characterization of poly (vinyl alcohol) hydrogels and hybrids for rMPB70 protein adsorption

Abstract: Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), PVA crosslinked with glutaraldehyde hydrogels (PVA/GA), PVA with tetraethylorthosilicate (PVA/TEOS) and PVA/GA/TEOS hybrids with recombinant MPB70 protein (rMPB70) incorporated were chemically characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). FTIR spectra of PVA hydrogel samples showed the absorption regions of the specific chemical groups associated with poly(vinyl alcohol) (-OH, -CO, -CH2) and PVA/GA confirming the formation of crosslinked hydrogel (duplet -CH). It was… Show more

“…The region of 1120-1020 cm -1 (ν C-O-C ) presented coincident bands for both polymers 12 . However HPMC and PVA and their blends can be differentiated by a sharp carbonyl band in 1700 cm -1 which is observed only when PVA is presented.…”

“…FTIR spectra confirmed the formation of PVA/MA and PVA/MA/silica hybrid with network crosslinking. The pure PVA sample (Figure 1-a) shows the typical C-H broad alkyl stretching band (2800-3000 cm -1 ) and the hydrogen bonded hydroxyl band (3200-3570 cm -1 ) [18]. The peak at 1000-1100 cm -1 was assigned to the C-O stretching vibration of the secondary alcohol (-CH-OH) of PVA.…”

“…25 The presence of magnetic Fe-O bending in 667 -420 cm -1 region showed the existence of magnetite Fe3O4 and maghemite γ-Fe2O3, as shown in Fig.-2 (inset). This result was in good agreement with the previous report by Monfared and Parchegani.…”
