Cyperus rotondus tubers possess substances with allelopathic qualities. Some of these substances can act as synergists of plant hormones and be used for root induction in cuttings. This study aimed to shed light on the development and rooting of Eucalyptus urophylla cuttings treated with C. rotondus (nutgrass) tuber extract and IAA (indole-3-acetic acid). The experiments were conducted using a completely randomized design (0; 25; 50; 75 and 100% nutgrass extract and 0; 50; 250; 500; 750 and 1000 mg L-1 of IAA), with four repetitions per treatment and four cuttings per plot. Plantlet height, stem width and root length were measured. The greatest width and height values were recorded for the control (0% nutgrass extract and 0 mg L-1 of IAA), indicating that these substances did not contribute to the development of these variables. However, treatments of nutgrass extract up to 50% were associated with greater root length. C. rotundus extract concentrations of 53% can be used to improve root development in E. urophylla cuttings, and contribute to the production of higher quality plantlets.

The use of natural plant growth promoters can be an effective, sustainable, and low-cost alternative to reduce input costs for the production of ornamental pepper. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Brachiaria decumbens aqueous extract on the growth of ornamental pepper (Capsicum frutescens). The experiment was carried out in the Plant Nursery sector of the Federal Institute of Espirito Santo (IFES), located in the municipality of Santa Teresa, in the Serrana region of theEspirito Santo State (Brazil). The study was conducted using a randomized block design (RBD) with four replicates in a 4×2 factorial scheme with four doses of the Brachiaria decumbens extract (0, 50, 75 and 100%) and two application methods (edaphic application or foliar sprays). The number of days to flowering, plant height, leaf number, fruit number, leaf area, fruit, root, shoot, and total dry mass were determined. According to the results, the variables number of fruits and root dry mass had no significant effect on the interaction, with the best results found with the edaphic application when compared to the foliar sprays. When considering interaction, the application of 100% of the extract reduced the number of days to floweringfor both edaphic application and foliar sprays. For growth variables, this same dose promoted the best results for most of the variables. Based on the results, the edaphic application of B. decumbens at 100% dosage is recommended to reduce the number of days to flowering and promote better development of ornamental pepper.

In the rooting process of Arabica coffee cuttings, plant hormones are used for inducing root formation. However, synthetic molecules cannot be used to form organic seedlings. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect Cyperus haspan extract and different concentrations and types of humic substances on Arabica coffee cuttings. Arabica coffee shoots were collected, and cuttings containing at least two buds were taken. The experiment had a three-factor design, 2 (presence or absence Cyperus haspan extract) x 2 (humic or fulvic acid) x 4 (0, 10, 25 and 50 mg dm-³ concentrations). The following vegetative data were evaluated: shoot height (cm), survival, remaining leaves, leaf pairs, vigor, number of shoots,root length, area root, volume root, diameter root and fresh and dry mass were also evaluated. The enzyme activity of H+-ATPase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, alcohol dehydrogenase and esterase was also quantified. The results showed that the Arabica coffee cutting rooting rate was increased when treated with humic acid at a concentration of 10 mg dm-³ in the presence of Cyperus haspan extract. The lowest oxidative stress was observed in the 10 mg.dm-³ humic and fulvic acid treatments, regardless of the use of the extract.
