Show more

“…In Cattleya bicolor, Souto et al (2010) also described the positive effects of auxin on root formation, although at high concentrations it hindered that process. Soares (2012) reported that the presence of BA stimulated root formation and root growth in length in Dendrobium nobile Lindl. This author also confirms the fact that increases in root length are beneficial to plants since they can explore larger substrate areas and thus absorb nutrients necessary for their development.…”

“…Main root development was not influenced by gibberellic acid at any concentration in any of the experiments (Figure 2A and B). Soares et al (2012) reported a positive influence of GA 3 on the shoot length in the orchid Dendrobium nobile Lindl. They also observed that plant height increased linearly with the increase of GA 3 concentration, suggesting a correlation between the two.…”

“…The use of green pod culture also prevents direct contact of seeds with the chemical disinfectant, which is potentially toxic to tissues (Yeoman andMacleod 1977, George 1993), thus improving the chance (and thus number) of seeds that are able to germinate. Soares et al (2012) disinfected fruits before seed inoculation in vitro, and observed higher percentage germination (80-100%) than when seeds were excised from fruits and then disinfected, obtaining only 46.47% germination (Tab. 1).…”
