BackgroundThe use of dermal fillers in minimally invasive facial aesthetic procedures has become increasingly popular of late, yet as the indications and the number of procedures performed increase, the number of complications is also likely to increase. Paying special attention to specific patient characteristics and to the technique used can do much to avoid these complications. Indeed, a well-trained physician can also minimize the impact of such problems when they do occur.MethodsA multidisciplinary group of experts in aesthetic treatments reviewed the main factors associated with the complications that arise when using dermal fillers. A search of English, French and Spanish language articles in PubMed was performed using the terms “complications” OR “soft filler complications” OR “injectable complications” AND “dermal fillers”. An initial document was drafted that reflected the complications identified and recommendations as to how they should be handled. This document was then reviewed and modified by the expert panel, until a final text was agreed upon and validated.ResultsThe panel addressed consensus recommendations about the preparation, the procedure and the post-procedural care. The panel considered it crucial to obtain an accurate medical history to prevent potential complications. An additional clinical assessment, including standardized photography, is also crucial to evaluate the outcomes and prevent potential complications. Furthermore, the state of the operating theatre, the patient’s health status and the preparation of the skin are critical to prevent superficial soft tissue infections. Finally, selecting the appropriate technique, based on the physician’s experience, as well as the characteristics of the patient and filler, helps to ensure successful outcomes and limits the complications.ConclusionsThis consensus document provides key elements to help clinicians who are starting to use dermal fillers to employ standard procedures and to understand how best to prevent potential complications of the treatment.Level of Evidence VThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Objective Results The mean (± standard deviation) showed a nasal projection of 10.1 mm (2.4), the upper and lower lip in front of the vertical reference line, subnasal and soft pogonion with a retrusion of 4.95 mm (4.6). The length of the upper lip showed a value of 20.2 mm (2.4) and the length of the lower lip of 42.5 mm (2.9). Conclusion RESUMO ObjetivoRealizar uma análise das características faciais dos pacientes com Síndrome de Down quanto à projeção do nariz, projeção e comprimento dos lábios superior e inferior e projeção do pogônio mole e compará-las com a análise padronizada por Ayala & Gutierrez 1 . MétodosA amostra foi composta por 20 pacientes portadores da Síndrome de Down com idade entre 8 a 13 anos de ambos os gêneros. A análise foi efetuada por um único ortodontista, utilizando telerradiografias em norma lateral e fotografia em posição natural da cabeça. Para a análise estatística foram utilizados os valores de média das medidas lineares dentro de um intervalo de confiança de 95%. ResultadosAs médias (+ desvio padrão) revelaram uma projeção nasal de 10,1 mm (2,4), o lábio superior e inferior à frente da linha de referência vertical, subnasal e pogônio mole com uma retrusão de 4,95 mm (4,6). O comprimento do lábio superior apresentou valor de 20,2mm (2,4) e o comprimento do lábio inferior de 42,5mm (2,9). ConclusãoConclui-se que pacientes com Síndrome de Down apresentaram em sua análise facial ao se comparar com Ayala & Gutierrez 1 menor projeção nasal, maior projeção do lábio superior e inferior, mas comprimentos semelhantes ao de indivíduos normais, e maior retrusão do pogônio mole.Termos de indexação: Circunferência craniana. The knowledge of anthropometry was adapted to the needs of the speech-Language pathologists, so that they may develop a more objective work, analyzing the orofacial morphology in more details and determine the possibilities for obtaining the functionality of the stomatognathic system.…”

OBJETIVOS: descrever medidas antropométricas orofaciais segundo a idade e o sexo; comparar a média do lado esquerdo da face com a média do lado direito da face, segundo a idade e o sexo. MÉTODOS: 27 crianças afro-descendentes portadoras de desnutrição com idade entre 4 e 6 anos. RESULTADOS: não houve diferença estatística para as medidas antropométricas orofaciais segundo idade e sexo. Para lábio inferior, filtro e o lado esquerdo da face, as medidas apresentaram-se em proporção maior no sexo masculino. Não foi constatada diferença significante entre o lado direito e o lado esquerdo no que se refere à distância do canto externo do olho ao cheilion, segundo idade e sexo. CONCLUSÃO: a idade não representou significância nos achados, mas ocorreram diferenças para o fator sexo. Não há diferenças estatísticas na comparação das medidas entre os lados da face para idade ou sexo.
