Show more

“…However, the growth dynamics of the trees, in terms of the continuous expansion in tree height, crown projection and leaf area index, triggers interactions with other components of the system that change with time (Pezzopane et al, 2021). Such alterations influence the distribution of nutrients that are essential for plant development, with consequential impact on the yield of grain produced by the constantly changing system (Ferreira Junior et al, 2014; Santos et al, 2020). In order to optimize production within the whole agroforestry system, a management plan is required, the details of which will depend on the equipment and technology available, the specificities of each component and the expected outcomes.…”

“…Maize (Zea mays) plays an important agricultural, economic and social role due to the multiplicity of uses, from human and animal feeding, to the production of bioproducts to obtaining biofuels (Ferreira Júnior et al, 2014;Szareski et al, 2018).It is cultivated both as an agricultural commodity in high-level management systems (Argenta et al, 2003;Demari et al, 2018) and in family agriculture, aiming at the subsistence and sustainability of rural properties (Sandri and Tofanelli, 2008).…”

“…Thus, the solar radiation balance in the plant canopy in these different agricultural management is fundamental to understanding the growth and development processes (Sinclair & Muchow, 1999;Ferreira Junior et al, 2014b;Wang et al, 2015) and the application of models that use components of this balance as input variable ( Liu & Bull, 2001;Marin & Jones, 2014). Solar radiation intercepted (or absorbed) by the plant canopy is the most important component for growth analysis, but to estimate this radiation, it is necessary to know the leaf area index (LAI) and the extinction coefficient (k) (Silva & Costa, 2012).…”
