-Changes in soils management systems, including the application of green manure, are able to increase crop productivity. The aim of this study was to propose a soil management system with the use of green manure to improve the nutritional status and melon productivity in the submedian of the São Francisco Valley. The experiment was installed in Typic Plinthustalf and conducted in split plot. There were two soil tillage systems, tillage (T) and no tillage (NT), and three types of green manure (two vegetal cocktails: VC1-75% legumes (L) + 25% non-legumes (NL); VC2-25% L+ 75% NL and spontaneous vegetation (SV)). The experimental design was a randomised block with four replications. Fourteen species of legumes, grasses and oilseeds were used for the composition of the plant cocktails. We evaluated production of the dry shoot and root biomass and carbon and nutrient accumulation by green manures and melon plant. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and the treatment means were compared by Tukey´s test (P<0.05). Shoot biomass production and carbon and nutrient accumulation were higher in plant mixtures compared to spontaneous vegetation. The root system of the plant cocktails added larger quantities of biomass and nutrients to the soil to a depth of 0.60 m when compared to the spontaneous vegetation. The cultivation of plant cocktails with soil tillage, regardless of their composition, is a viable alternative for adding biomass and nutrients to the soil in melon crops in semi-arid conditions, providing productivity increases.Keywords: Cucumis melo L. SISTEMAS DE MANEJO DO SOLO PARA CULTIVO SUSTENTÁVEL DO MELÃO NO VALE DO SUBMÉDIO SÃO FRANCISCORESUMO -Mudanças nos sistemas de manejo de solos, incluindo adubação verde, podem aumentar a produtividade das culturas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi propor um sistema de manejo do solo com uso de adubação verde para melhorar o estado nutricional e a produtividade do melão no Vale do Submédio São Francisco. O experimento foi instalado em Argissolo Amarelo, em parcelas subdivididas, sendo as parcelas dois sistemas de preparo do solo, convencional (C) e plantio direto (PD), e as subparcelas três tipos de adubação verde (dois coquetéis vegetais: CV1-75% leguminosas (L) + 25 % não-leguminosas (NL); CV2-25% L + 75% NL e vegetação espontânea (VE)). Após 70 dias da semeadura os adubos verdes foram manejados. Foram avaliados a produção de fitomassa aérea e radicular, acúmulo de nutrientes e C dos adubos verdes e a produtividade meloeiro. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância ao nível de 5% de probabilidade e as médias dos tratamentos foram comparados pelo teste de Tukey, ao nível de 5% de probabilidade. The experiment was conducted in 2014, in a completely randomized factorial design (5x6), with three replications. The factors were soil classes (Typic Ustipsamments, Typic Haplustults, Typic Haplustepts, Typic Ustifluvents, and Typic Haplusterts) and levels of irrigation water salinity (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 dS m-1). Increasing salinity of irrigation water caused increase in leaf contents of macronutrients in all soils. Adequate leaf contents of N, K, and Mg were observed in plants grown in all soils except K in Typic Haplusterts and Mg in Typic Ustipsamments. Appropriate P levels were observed only in Typic Haplustepts, and Ca only in Typic Haplustults and Typic Ustifluvents. Increased salinity of irrigation water caused increased leaf contents of micronutrients in all soils except copper in Typic Ustifluvents, iron in Typic Haplusterts and Typic Haplustults, and manganese in Typic Ustipsamments and Typic Haplustults.

Resumo: O meloeiro é uma das culturas que mais exportam nutrientes com a colheita dos frutos, sendo, ainda, uma das que menos restituem nutrientes ao solo, especialmente quando os restos culturais são retirados da área. Assim, objetivou-se determinar a extração de macro e de micronutrientes pelo fruto, assim como sua proporção em relação a parte aérea durante o desenvolvimento do melão amarelo. O experimento foi instalado segundo o delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos corresponderam às cinco épocas de avaliação para os frutos, sendo: 35, 42, 49, 56 e 63 dias após o transplantio (DAT); e quatro épocas para as sementes: 42, 49, 56 e 63 DAT. Amostras de plantas foram subdivididas em folhas, caule, fruto (casca mais polpa) e semente. Nelas foram avaliadas as quantidades extraídas de macronutrientes e micronutrientes, bem como as proporções relativas dos nutrientes no fruto. Os nutrientes K, N e Ca são os mais extraídos, tanto pelo fruto quanto pela semente. Para os micronutrientes, têm-se as seguintes sequências de extração: Fe>Zn>B>Cu>Mn no fruto e Fe>Zn>Mn>B>Cu na semente. As proporções dos nutrientes no fruto aumentam continuamente durante seu desenvolvimento. As porcentagens extraídas de nutrientes pelo fruto, em relação a parte aérea total, segue a seguinte ordem: Cu>K>P>N>Zn>B>Mg>S>Fe>Mn>Ca. Palavras-chave: Cucumis melo. Demanda nutricional. Abstract:The melon is one of the crops that most export nutrients at harvesting, and is furthermore one of the crops that least restores nutrients to the soil, especially when the crop residue is removed from the area. The aim of this study therefore was to determine the extraction of macronutrients and micronutrients by the fruit, as well as their proportion in relation to the shoots, during development of the canary melon. The treatments corresponded to five periods of evaluation for the fruit: 35, 42, 49, 56 and 63 days after transplanting (DAT); and four periods for the seeds: 42, 49, 56 and 63 DAT.
