Show more

“…Thus, growth rate may be reduced and the deficiency symptoms related to the already caused metabolic disorders may appear only later. On the other hand, the mean contents of P in the leaves in the present study were higher than the mean of 1.17 g kg -1 observed by Santos et al (2012), but lower than the range of 1.87 to 1.93 g kg -1 reported by Cerqueira et al (2008) and 1.77 g kg -1 obtained by Viégas et al (2014) for the cultivation of heliconias.…”

“…The mean leaf K contents observed in the present study are between 18.23 and 27.1 g kg -1 , and are higher than the range of 17.4 to 18.7 g kg -1 observed by Santos et al (2012), the amplitude of 14.0 to 16.5 g kg -1 (Cerqueira et al, 2008) and the value of 2.59 g kg -1 (Viégas et al, 2014). The leaf K contents in this study are below the range of 35-45 g kg -1 reported by Atehortua (1997), although no visual symptom of deficiency was observed at the field.…”

“…Sousa et al (2011) attributed the little flowering to water salinity, although it did not interfere in tillering. Santos et al (2012) attributed the non-flowering to the low level of applied phosphorus (P). Gervásio & Melo Junior (2014) when evaluating different levels of water depletion in organic substrate in pot cultivation of heliconias, obtained a high tillering, reaching up to 25 tillers per vase.…”

“…Work on the cultivation of potted Heliconia is still scarce in the national and international literature. Santos et al (2012) evaluated the growth and nutritional status of Golden Adrian Heliconia irrigated with treated domestic wastewater using 20-liter pots and did not observe floral stem emission even after nine months of cultivation. Similar results were observed by Melo et al (2002) in an experiment with 19 genotypes (species and cultivars) of Heliconia grown in pot and under conditions of free tillering even after 250 days of cultivation.…”
