“…However, if society has the human life and the accomplishment of its nature as its finality, in a society whose relationhip between means and ends is inverted, the men are the means for this very system to be maintained in its irrational rationality. In this sense, in the context of the societies analyzed by Horkheimer and Adorno in their essays, a life is impossible for the individual that is not based on sacrifices (Crochík, 1999). This is because the struggle for self-preservation has not only not been overcome, but happens to have been be intensified, imposing a forced adaptation to society on the individuals -which is anachronistic from the point of view of the material basis performed in history, because it already would allow such overcoming.…”

This article discusses the materialistic bases of the concept of individual and consciousness according to the thinkers Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno. Therefore, it brings the analysis of the object of psychology, the individual, through the journey of his material movement under his different expressions in history, and, with this, presents some considerations on consciousness from the perspective of the Critical Theory of Society. In this sense, it seeks to highlight the relationships between the object of sociology and psychology, recalling that society contains in its determinations, as potentiality, the movement of the particulars to the establishment of a fair whole, ensuring universality; a way from which the individual may differentiate and constitute himself in a pacified way. According to the analysis undertaken, through the investigation of the material evidence that engender the individual in history, one can understand consciousness as a social self-consciousness, that is, socially determined and expression of the formation for autonomy.

RESUMOEste artigo discorre sobre os aspectos da constituição do indivíduo e sobre o potencial epistemológico da arte como crítica às condições objetivas que fundamentam e obstam tal constituição. Para essa discussão teórica, tomam-se como base as contribuições de Theodor Adorno, em especial, no tocante às configurações de uma sociedade na qual impera a barbárie e às condições de possibilidade de formação cultural e de realização de uma vida justa e livre. Entende-se que o modo de racionalização da vida vem distanciando os homens de seus interesses racionais e sensíveis, pois quanto mais subjugados aos ditames da autoconservação, mais suscetíveis tornamse à dominação (segunda natureza). Como resistência, a arte, produção social que testemunha a potencialidade da história natural, configura-se como um procedimento racional não afirmativo do fracasso da cultura. Sua logicidade imanente guarda, na tensão forma e conteúdo, a capacidade dos homens de pensar para além das amarras objetivas e subjetivas.Palavras-chave: indivíduo; cultura; arte; subjetividade; Theodor W. Adorno. RESUMENSe abordam los aspectos de la constitución del individuo y el potencial epistemológico del arte como crítica a las condiciones objetivas que apoyan y dificultan tal constitución. Se toman como base los aportes de Theodor Adorno, en particular lo que se refiere a la configuración de una sociedad de barbarie y a las condiciones de formación cultural y de una vida justa y libre. Se entiende que la racionalización de la vida ha distanciado los hombres de sus intereses racionales y sensibles, pues sometido a los dictados de la propia conservación, se vuelven más susceptibles a la dominación (segunda naturaleza). Como resistencia, el arte, la producción social que demuestra el potencial de la historia natural, aparece como procedimiento racional no afirmativo del fracaso de la cultura. Su logicidad inmanente guarda, en la tensión forma y contenido, la capacidad del hombre para pensar más allá de los vínculos objetivos y subjetivos.Palabras clave: individuo; cultura; arte; subjetividad; Theodor W. Adorno. ABSTRACTThis article discusses aspects of the individual's constitution and the epistemological potential of art as critique of underlying objective conditions that prevent such formation. To this discussion, the contributions of Theodor Adorno are taken as basis, in particular with regard to the settings of a society where barbarism prevails on the conditions of cultural formation and a fair and free life. It is understood that the way that life has been rationalized keeps pushing men away from their rational and sensitive interests, because the more they are subdued to the dictates of self-preservation, the more they become susceptible to domination (second nature). As resistance, art, a social production that bears witness the potential of natural history, sets up as a non-affirmative rational procedure of the failure of culture. Resumo: O presente trabalho apresenta um conjunto de reflexões acerca das questões éticas que envolvem a pesquisa com povos indígenas no âmbito da Psicologia social. Partindo da questão "para que e para quem determinado saber é produzido?" iniciamos nossa reflexão, inserindo-a numa discussão ética e política que acreditamos ser fundamental para toda pesquisa. Partilhando das discussões de Guareschi (2003), baseamonos numa concepção de ética enquanto instância crítica, o que significa considerá-la uma busca incessante por transformação, o que também quer dizer que ela precisa ser propositiva e, por fim, que a ética só pode se referir às relações, sendo, ela mesma, sempre uma relação. A partir desses três pontos, realizamos uma reflexão acerca das pesquisas com grupos indígenas, acreditando que posicionar-se dentro de determinados valores é fundamental para que não se continue repetindo os abusos que têm sido cometidos ao longo da História em relação a essa população. Palavras-chave: ética, populações indígenas, Psicologia social.Abstract: This work presents a set of reflections about ethical questions involving research with native people within the Social Psychology area. To start our reflection we begin with the question "what for and for whom a specific knowledge is produced?", inserting it in an ethical and political discussion that we believe to be fundamental for the whole research. Sharing the discussions of Guareschi (2003), we have based our work on a conception of ethics as an instance of criticism, what means considering it as an incessant search for transformation, and a propositive subject as well, and, finally, it means that ethics can only refer to relationships, since it is actually a relationship itself. Starting from these three statements we have proceeded a reflection about the research with native groups, believing that focusing within certain values is fundamental to avoid the repetition of the same abusive behavior toward these populations during History.
