Show more

“…The application of shockwaves to the proximal tibial growth plate of immature rats resulted in focal growth plate dysplasia [28]. Further studies were not able to show any effect of shockwaves on growth plates in rabbits [29][30][31]. Since mostly young and growing dogs of large and giant breeds are affected by hygromas one should always consider the possible effect of shockwaves to the growth plates in the area before treatment.…”

“… 7–9 Over the past 30 years, extracorporeal shock waves have been safely and efficiently used in the treatment of various pathological conditions. 10 11 Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), for example, is a well-established treatment for urological pathologies. More recently, low 12–14 and high 14 15 energy shock wave therapies are being used in the treatment of pseudoarthrosis 16 17 and several types of tendinopathy with prominent results.…”

“…Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (SWT) has been used for more than 30 years, proving to be a safe and efficient way to treat kidney stones. 7,8 Both low-energy [9][10][11] and high-energy 9,12 shockwaves are being used to treat several other conditions like pseudoarthrosis 13,14 and other kinds of tendinopathy with interesting results. [15][16][17][18] Within this context and based on recent evidence, SWT has been proposed as a viable and promising option to be used when classic nonsurgical treatment fails, but prior to surgery referral.…”
