There were no significant differences between the two groups in relation to play partners, with classmates being the most frequent play partner for both groups. There were significant differences between the two groups in preferred place to play. Children with ADHD preferred to play in school and typically developing children preferred to play on the street. There were significant differences in relation to toys and type of play engaged in with children with ADHD preferring educational materials and typically developing children preferring electronic games. These findings add to knowledge of Brazilian children with ADHD and their play preferences. Comparisons are made with research with Australian children with and without ADHD.

Considerando que o contexto econômico influencia o brincar de crianças, este trabalho teve por objetivo analisar as diferenças entre os brinquedos utilizados por crianças de duas diferentes classes socioeconômicas. Os dados foram coletados junto a 50 mães de crianças com idade entre três e seis anos, metade pertencentes à classe econômica A2 (Grupo 2), e a outra metade pertencente à classe econômica D (Grupo 1), segundo o Critério Brasil. Os resultados apontam para a existência de diferenças significativas quanto ao uso do computador (p=0,000), jogos de tabuleiro (p=0,023), jogos de armar (p=0,042) e jogo de botão (p=0,012), mais presentes no Grupo 2, e quanto ao uso de brinquedos de corda (p=0,005), brinquedos de sucata (p=0,000) e pular corda (p=0,021), mais presentes no Grupo 1. Os resultados sugerem certa influência socioeconômica no brincar de crianças pré-escolares.

Virtual and augmented reality technologies in Human Performance: a review

Introduction : Today's society is influenced by Information and Communication Technologies. Toys that were once built by hand have been reinterpreted and have become highly commercialized products. In this context, games using Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies are present in the everyday lives of children, youth and adults. Objective : To investigate how Physical Education professionals in Brazil have been making use of AR and VR games to benefit their work. Materials and methods : We only included studies that addressed exercise or physical activity using AR or VR games. We searched the databases of Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), using the words augmented reality, virtual reality, exergames, Wii and serious games. Results : Nineteen articles were included in the systematic review. The most frequently used device was the Nintendo(r) Wii, with over 25 different kinds of games. With regard to the subjects of the studies, four studies were conducted with healthy individuals (mean = 65.7), three with patients with Parkinson's disease (mean = 18.0), three with elderly women (mean = 7.7) and two with patients with stroke injury (mean = 6.0). Conclusion : Many physical therapists and occupational therapists use serious games with AR or VR technologies as another work tool, especially for rehabilitation practices. The fact that these technologies are also used in Physical Education classes in Brazil indicates that electronic games are available and can be a tool that can contribute to the widespread adoption of exercise as an enjoyable form of recreation.
