Show more

“…Geology consists of intrusive igneous rocks, syenogranites corresponding to Intrusive Suíte Dom Feliciano—Lithofacies Serra do Herval, Neoproterozoic period (2,500 Ma; Ramgrab et al, ). Soils on site are classified as Argissolo Vermelho , Argissolo Amarelo , Argissolo Vermelho‐Amarelo , Cambissolo Háplico , and Planossolo Háplico (Costa, Curi, Menezes, Araújo, & Marques, , Brazilian Soil Classification System—(Santos et al, )), and as Ultisols, Inceptisols, and Planosols (Soil Taxonomy—United States Department of Agriculture, ). Soil texture gradient is greater in Ultisols and Planosols (Oliveira, ), where the sandy texture in surface horizons (A + E) provides rapid water infiltration, which decreases inside the textural B horizon due to its lower permeability.…”

“…Soil maps (1:10 000) and characteristics such as texture, hydraulic conductivity, and water retention curves are described in other studies (Costa et al, ; Santos et al, ). The predominant soil in both TD and PC catchments was Haplic Acrisol with loam surface textures (Table ) and high saturated hydraulic conductivity.…”

“…In that sense, the use of geotechnologies such as GPS, digital maps, digital elevation models (DEM) and geographical information systems (GIS), along with modern geoprocessing techniques and tools, aid the production of greater scale soil maps, facilitating a more precise delimitation of the soil classes (McBratney;Mendonça-Santos;Minasny, 2003;Costa et al, 2009b;Horta et al, 2009).…”
