Show more

“…Comiotto et al (2013), while evaluating the same scions and rootstocks of the present study, did not observe any differences between rootstocks for SS, but found that 'Umezeiro' induced a lower SS/TA ratio than the other rootstocks. However, Orazem et al (2011) did report alterations in the maturation point due to rootstock effect. These authors found differences in the contents of soluble sugars and of acids among rootstocks.…”

“…For the other variables, a factorial analysis was carried out, with blocks as a random effect, also using Proc Mixed. Interactions between factors were considered significant when p≤0.25 (Perecin & Cargnelutti Filho, 2008). When necessary, Tukey's test was performed, at 5% probability, to compare means.…”

“…For this reason, we studied the isolated effect of depth and genotype for these variables, as shown in Tables 2 and 3. Since the interactions between genotypes and depths were not generally significant, they should be evaluated deeply and individually according to Perecin and Cargnelutti Filho (2008). In this case, there were representative results as shown in the graphs below.…”

“…The significance of the interaction gives valuable information because it enables and validates generalizations regarding the effect of factors under study (Perecin and Cargnelutti Filho, 2008). Such generalizations are especially useful in understanding the phenomena and are "general standards", as opposed to the concept of always looking for decomposed interaction, which makes perception of these standards difficult.…”

“…However, it is easy to understand that, in some situations, even without significant interaction at 5 %, the decomposed interaction demonstrates the differential effects of levels of factor B for each level of factor A, or vice versa. In order to avoid this problem, the criterion for considering the significance of the interaction (commonly p<0.05) can be moved to a higher value, such as 0.25, as suggested by Perecin and Cargnelutti Filho (2008). By adopting this criterion, the decomposition of interaction will be suspended only in situations where there is a great deal of evidence for the lack of interaction, increasing the reliability of the generalizations.…”
