Show more

“…Lipids showed the highest and lowest values (P < 0.05) at 50 g kg À1 and 100 g kg À1 glycerol, respectively. Graeff & Tomazelli (2007) also observed similar results with young carp. The ash contents did not show significant differences between the treatments also.…”

“…One of the greatest requirements for fish rations is with regard to available energy for maintenance, growth, or reproduction, because the dietary energy source for these animals comes from proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates (Graeff & Tomazelli 2007).…”

“…The absence of any tendency towards better results for any of the oil sources tested (Table 2) strengthens this hypothesis. Similar results were observed for the Nile tilapia (Matsushita et al, 2006), jundiá Rhamdia quelen (Losekann et al, 2008) and common carp Cyprinus carpio L. (Graeff and Tomazelli, 2007). The use of oils rich in n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) has allowed improvements on the growth of juvenile Japanese sole (Paralichthys olivaceus) fed with a diet supplemented with squid liver oil (Kim et al, 2002).…”

“…The common carp is considered a species with great potential in fish farming due to its tolerance to low levels of dissolved oxygen, handling, and wide temperature range; easy reproduction; good adaptation to farming systems; and good acceptance of a variety of diets (BARBIERI et al, 1998;OMAR et al, 2012;TANG et al, 2013). Although its meat is not the most sought after by the food industry, the demand for its by-products and processed meats is increasing (GRAEFF and TOMAZELLI, 2007).…”
