Structural, morphological and optical properties of Mn doped ZnS nanocrystals

Abstract: Mn doped ZnS samples with composition formula Zn1-xMn xS where x = 0, 0.02, 0.05 and 0.10 were prepared by chemical method. Samples characterized for its structural, morphological and optical properties by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-vis spectrometry. XRD patterns confirm cubic zinc blend structure with no secondary phases for pure and Mn doped ZnS. Lattice constant value increases slightly with Mn concentration due to t… Show more

“…Hoa et al [11] have also reported similar observations for Mn-doped ZnS nanoclusters with increasing Mn-doping concentration from 0.5 at.% to 3 at.%. Interestingly, the variation of the band gap is similar to what has been observed in case of Mn-doped CdS nanoclusters [44] and is opposite to what has been observed in case of Cd-doped thin ZnS sprayed films and Mn-doped ZnS nanocrystals [34,45]. The increase in band gap of Mn-doped thin ZnS film with increasing Mn concentration from 1 at.% to 12 at.% has been ascribed to sp-3d exchange interaction in a confined regime [11].…”

“…During the sample processing in the HRTEM analysis, the high degree of agglomeration is due to the association of Co 3 O 4 -NPs in the highly concentrated sample. 30 The Co 3 O 4 -NPs ranged in sizes of 1-7 nm, with most of the particles being about 3.5 nm in size, as shown in the inset histogram of Fig. 1a.…”

“…The absorption peak at 612 cm -1 corresponds to the Zn-S band while the peak at 1503 cm -1 can be assigned to NH 3+ symmetric deformation [27].The presence of absorption peaks around 1200 and 1100 cm -1 supports the presence of inorganic ions [28]. The peak at 1362 cm -1 is due to (CO 3 ) 2-asymmetric stretching vibration.…”
