Corymbiform nodular amyloidosis

Abstract: Amyloidosis is part of a group of deposition diseases. Nodular amyloidosis is a rare form of primary cutaneous amyloidosis. It affects men and women, usually over the age of 60 years. Presenting manifestation of the disease are yellowish-erythematous or brownish nodules or plaques in single or multiple infiltrates. Systemic evaluation should be performed to rule out involvement of other organs. Follow-up of the patient is important because the condition may progress to systemic amyloidosis. We report a case of… Show more

“…5 Approximately 75% of plasma cells expressed kappa chains, while the remainings expressed lambda chains. 6 However, in line with the previous study, 7 we observed no immunoreactivity of the plasma cells for both light chains, which may rule out a focal plasmacytoma. On the other hand, the perivascular and periadnexal infiltrate was mainly composed of T lymphocytes (CD3) and scarcely B lymphocytes (CD20), along with helper T lymphocytes (CD4) surpassing cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CD8).…”

“…10 However, the immunohistochemical results of amyloid deposits for lambda and kappa light chains are variable. [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] Our observation demonstrated that the amorphous material was strongly positive for kappa chains and weakly positive for lambda chains, indicating that the amyloid deposits may stem from polyclonal plasma cells.…”

“…Therefore, these patients should be followed up for systemic evaluation. 1,6 Our patient did not have any symptoms and signs of systemic amyloidosis. He is still on our follow up for a possible development of systemic amyloidosis and plasma cell dyscrasia.…”
