Chironomidae (Diptera) do Rio Ribeira (divisa dos Estados de São Paulo e Paraná) numa avaliação ambiental faunística

Abstract: Chironomidae (Diptera) in Rio Ribeira (border between the States of São Paulo and Paraná) in an Environmental faunistic evaluation-During a program of limnological characterization, the macrobenthic community was evaluated in a section of river Ribeira, in the area included of the future reservoir UHE Tijuco Alto. In the four expeditions, during XII/95 to IX/96, samples were collected in five stations included between Criminosa stream and Eldorado city (both in São Paulo state). Faunistic data analyzed (taxono… Show more

“…In contrast, Jorcin and Nogueira (2008) found no Rheotanytarsus but a high number of Djamabatista in the waterfall of the Paranapanema reservoir. A high abundance of Djamabatista larvae was also recorded by Trivinho-Strixino and Strixino (2005) who analyzed the Chironomidae community in the Ribeira River, spatially near the Paranapanema River Basin. Djamabatista larvae are good swimmers and prefer shallow water (Nessimian and Henriques-de-Oliveira 2005).…”

“…The Chironominae frequently are described as the most abundant Chironomidae subfamily in the region (Suriano and Fonseca-Gessner 2004;Trivinho-Strixino and Strixino 2005;Mendes and Pinho 2009) while Orthocladiinae is the most common subfamily in lotic systems with high frequency in rapids of streams and rivers Ferrington 1984, 1996).…”

“…Though characteristic for lotic systems (Trivinho- Strixino and Strixino, 2005), Rheotanytarsus was recorded in lakes with muddy ground of the Sepotuba basin. Similarly Butakka (2000) encountered larvae of this genus in floodplain lake close to a channel connecting to the main river (Cuiabá River).…”

“…Hydrobiologia, vol. 470,[1][2][3] insects, which gives them ecological and biological adaptations that enable them to explore different habitats (Trivinho-Strixino and Strixino, 2005). For benthic organisms, studies have already shown that local characteristics are more important than regional ones to the spatial structure of this group (Lammert and Allan, 1999).…”
