Abstract:The media influences the way that the gender relationships are comprehended, a process that illustrates the relevance of the analysis about the patterns transmitted by the media materials. The Brazilian masculine magazines with high circulation are examples of media materials that reproduce patterns that are present culturally and participate in the construction of masculinity and femininity ideals. This research, qualitative-descriptive, aimed to identify and analyze the gender patterns and sexuality patterns in four Brazilian masculine magazines directed to the heterosexual public: Playboy, Sexy, Vip and Men's Health. Through the content analysis, the results were organized in the following thematic categories: 1) Relation between the centrality given to the feminine body and the sexism; 2) Devaluation of consent and of the feminine sexual desire; 3) Physical violence and rape as jokes themes and 4) Heteronormativity and homophobia. It is possible to stress the frequency that the women were represented as reduced to the body and to the need to satisfy the masculine desires and fantasies, with no place to their own voices and desires. It is concluded that it is necessary to prevent and fight against the gender violence, discussing critically about this issue, which is, unfortunately, often transmitted as natural in the magazines that were analyzed.
