Show more

“…These results corroborate to a study of 10 adults who stutter, in which 50% were classified as mild stuttering, 10% moderate, 20% severe and 20% very severe 25 , suggesting therefore that the mild stuttering is more prevalent. However, the results are not in accordance to the data for the probands from a study with 17 children who stutter, as 53% were classified as moderate stuttering, 29.4% mild, and 17.6% severe 27 . In the same publication, the author showed that 95% of the affected family members (total of 20 first-degree relatives of persons) showed mild stuttering, a result similar to our study.…”

“…The duration of each speech sample was timed, and for this calculation the silent time (pauses and unfilled hesitations) was not discounted, nor the time spent in the production of disfluencies, a methodology proposed by the Fluency Assessment Protocol. 38 The evaluator's speech was removed from the sample and, subsequently, the total utterance time (TTEe) was measured, 39 related to the production of the 200 fluent syllables.…”

“…In order to find the genetic influences in stuttering, a research investigated the family profile of speech fluency, analyzing linguistic, electromyographic and acoustic aspects in children with and without family history close to stuttering 14 . The participants of the study were 17 probands with stuttering diagnosis; 17 fathers; 17 mothers; 10 brothers and 13 sisters constituting group 1; and 15 fluent probands; 15 fathers; 15 mothers; 0 brothers and 8 sisters, constituting group 2.…”
