The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of occurrence and to characterize the typology of dysfluencies in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD), including the variables age, gender, schooling, disease duration, score on the Hoehn and Yahr scale and cognitive status (score on Mini-Mental State Examination). A cross-sectional study of a sample comprising 60 adults matched for gender, age and schooling was conducted. Group I comprised 30 adults with idiopathic PD, and Group II comprised 30 healthy adults. For assessment of fluency of speech, subjects were asked to utter a narrative based on a sequence of drawings and a transcription of 200 fluent syllables was performed to identify speech dysfluencies. PD patients exhibited a higher overall number of dysfluencies in speech with a large number of atypical dysfluencies. Additionally, results showed an influence of the variables cognitive status, disease duration and age on occurrence of dysfluencies.Keywords: Parkinson's disease, cognition, speech.RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a frequência de ocorrência e caracterizar a tipologia das disfluências em indivíduos com doença de Parkison (DP), controlando-se as variáveis, idade, sexo, escolaridade, tempo de doença, escore na escala de Hoehn e Yahr e status cognitivo (escore no Exame do Minimental). Realizamos um estudo transversal com amostra composta por 60 adultos pareados por sexo, idade e escolaridade. O grupo I foi formado por 30 adultos com DP idiopática, e o grupo II por 30 adultos sadios. Para a avaliação da fluência da fala foi solicitada a emissão de uma narrativa a partir de uma sequência de figuras e realizada a trascrição de 200 sílabas para verificação das disfluências de fala. Os pacientes com DP apresentaram um número maior de disfluências na fala com um grande número de disfluências atípicas e, adicionalmente, observamos que houve interferência das variáveis status cognitivo, tempo de doença e idade na ocorrência das disfluências.Palavras-chave: doença de Parkinson, cognição, fala.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to quantify and compare the typology of speech disruptions presented by stuttering and fluent Brazilian Portuguese-speaking children, adolescents and adults. Subjects and Methods: Participants were 150 individuals, with ages between 4.0 and 49.11 years, who were divided into six groups: children who stutter (n = 25), children who do not stutter (n = 25), adolescents who stutter (n = 25), adolescents who do not stutter (n = 25), adults who stutter (n = 25) and adults who do not stutter (n = 25). For each participant, the frequency of stuttering-like disfluencies (SLD) and other disfluencies was calculated based on the video recordings of spontaneous speech samples. Results: The results obtained for SLD were significant when comparing stuttering and fluent individuals. In children who stutter, adolescents who stutter, and adults who stutter, a higher frequency of SLD was found. Other disfluencies did not differentiate the groups. Conclusion: The age factor did not qualify quantitatively any of the groups, but indicated qualitative differences (in terms of the type of speech disfluencies) between groups. The results revealed similarities when compared with studies carried out in different languages.

OBJETIVO: Verificar a ocorrência de pausas na fala de idosos e sua distribuição quanto à frequência e a duração. MÉTODOS: Participaram deste estudo 128 idosos de ambos os gêneros, divididos em dois grupos: GI (60-79 anos) e GII (a partir de 80 anos). Foram obtidas amostras de fala de todos os participantes para análise das rupturas de fala. As pausas foram classificadas como: hesitação (pausas de um a dois segundos) e pausa propriamente dita (acima de dois segundos). A análise computou 200 sílabas fluentes de cada amostra de fala. Os grupos foram comparados quanto às seguintes variáveis: presença de pausas e hesitações; duração média das pausas; porcentagem de tempo de pausas; frequência de pausas e hesitações; e frequência geral. RESULTADOS: Para GII houve maior número de pausas e hesitações. Na análise da duração e da porcentagem de tempo de pausas não foi observada diferença entre os grupos. Em relação à frequência de pausas, hesitações e pausamento geral, observa-se diferença apenas para a última variável, com maior média de ocorrência para GII. CONCLUSÃO: Idosos com mais de 80 anos apresentam mais rupturas de fala por pausas que os idosos abaixo dessa idade. O estudo contribui como um balizador sobre as mudanças na fala relacionadas à quantidade de pausas e como um parâmetro comparativo para sintomas de doenças que se manifestam pelas variações de fala.
