The main objective of this paper is to investigate the degree to which lean manufacturing (LM) practices are being implemented within Brazilian small and medium enterprises (SMEs), by defining what LM means, in the view of SMEs in Brazil. In addition, the paper investigates the relationship between LM implementation and performance of such companies. The research method used in this paper comprised of an exploratory survey using the partial least-square method with the structural equation modelling technique (PLS-SEM). The results show that the companies studied used practices in a fragmented manner, without a holistic view of LM, which is considered to be one of the most important parts of this approach. Only the constructs of statistical process control, total productive maintenance and employee involvement are being implemented as an integrated approach for Brazilian SMEs. These companies do not take other important constructs such as customer involvement, continuous flow, pull production, set-up time reduction, supplier development and supplier feedback into consideration as part of LM systems, despite using some practices in a dispersed manner. Concerning performance, the present study shows that even in a fragmented way, the implementation of these LM practices help these companies to achieve improvement in operational performance.

Initiatives toward Lean and Green Manufacturing are given mainly due to organisational response to current market's economic and environmental pressures. This paper, therefore, aims to present a brief discussion based on a literature review of the potential two-way influence between Lean and Green Manufacturing and its role on the main organisational areas with a closer relationship to such approaches, which were observed to be more extensively discussed in the literature. Naturally lean practises seem more likely to deploy into green outcomes, though the other way around can also occur. There is some blur on the factual integration of both themes, as some authors suggest. Notwhithstanding, they certainly present certain synergy. Thereupon, further research is needed to unveil the real ties, overlaps and gaps between these approaches.

This study aims to describe and discuss the elements of the collaboration process between an automaker and a key supplier from the point of view of the latter. The automotive industry has done much to develop the supplyResumo: Este trabalho teve como objetivo descrever e discutir os elementos do processo de colaboração entre uma montadora de automóveis e um fornecedor-chave, do ponto de vista deste último. A indústria automotiva muito contribuiu para impulsionar a gestão da cadeia de suprimentos desde os anos 1990, mas a literatura nacional não descreve que patamar de maturidade tal setor industrial alcançou com os principais fornecedores de primeira camada, especialmente sob a ótica do abastecimento. Visando realizar um primeiro passo na compreensão deste fenômeno, utilizou-se do método de estudo de caso exploratório-descritivo. Os resultados indicam a existência de uma colaboração limitada ao nível operacional e de maturidade reduzida. A confiança, um input vital para o sucesso da gestão colaborativa, mostrou-se restrita, evidenciando, em alguns momentos, um comportamento ganha-perde. Pôde-se inferir que o primeiro passo em busca do estabelecimento de um relacionamento colaborativo foi realizado, no entanto existem muitas barreiras a serem superadas na consolidação de um verdadeiro relacionamento colaborativo. Isto ocorre mesmo em um ambiente de empresas ditas de classe mundial e em um setor industrial deveras sofisticado, como o automobilístico.Palavras-chave: Gestão da cadeia de suprimentos; Colaboração orientada ao abastecimento; Indústria automotiva.
