Approach of the Two-way Influence Between Lean and Green Manufacturing and its Connection to Related Organisational Areas

Abstract: Initiatives toward Lean and Green Manufacturing are given mainly due to organisational response to current market's economic and environmental pressures. This paper, therefore, aims to present a brief discussion based on a literature review of the potential two-way influence between Lean and Green Manufacturing and its role on the main organisational areas with a closer relationship to such approaches, which were observed to be more extensively discussed in the literature. “…Moreover, the study's findings unveil overlaps between LM and EPs by establishing relative potency of EPs and LP in creating RCQA and improving EP. This serves as a response to the request of extant literature (Salvador et al , 2017) to investigate gaps, real bonds and overlaps between LM and EPs. In addition, the results of this study explain the natural resource-based view theory by unveiling the capabilities of EPs and LM in creating RCQA and improving EP and BP.…”

“…Klassen and McLaughlin (1996) claim that LM and EPs have conflicting objectives. Despite the existence of myriad literature on the synergy between LM and EP, Salvador et al (2017) demand further investigation into gaps, real bonds and overlaps between them. This has ignited a need to explore the extent to which these strategies help in achieving environmental and economic goals in our current globalized and competitive market.…”

“…For decades, the link between different patterns of supply chain strategies has been of interest to researchers (e.g., Salvador et al, 2017;Machado, 2017a, 2017b;Alhyari, 2015). Thus, SCM is challenged with the increasing number of management paradigms to supply benefit to SC members and to react appropriately to the market requirements and changes (Azfar, 2012;Machado and Duarte, 2010).…”

“…There are a number of prior studies on SCM paradigms (Salvador et al, 2017;Machado, 2017a, 2017b;Alhyari, 2015;Cabral et al, 2012;Cruz-Machado, 2011, 2009). These studies provide comparisons between the lean, agile, green and resilience paradigms in order to clearly address the conflicts among those paradigms.…”
