Abstract: No Brasil as taxas de homicídios alcançaram índices alarmantes. A maioria das análises em Ciência Política negligencia a relação entre violência e qualidade da democracia. O Index of Democracy do The Economist Unit (2008) avaliou o Brasil como sendo um país de elevada pontuação no indicador de liberdades civis.
