Introduction: Quality of life (QoL) of hemodialysis patients is a major evaluative marker currently measured, while treatment time is a clinical determinant associated with impaired QOL. Objective: To evaluate QOL in individuals undergoing hemodialysis (HD) considering treatment time and the presence of comorbidities. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted in the hemodialysis unit of the Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (HC-UFPE). We studied patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) of both genders over the age of 18 years, at any level of education and undergoing HD for at least 6 months. We evaluated the demographic/socioeconomic and clinical data, followed by application of the quality of life questionnaire (KDQOL-SF). Results: Participants were 47 patients with a mean age of 50.94 ± 13.33 years, 55.3% were male and average treatment time of 57.35 ± 61.46 months. Hypertension (59.6%) was the most frequent underlying disease. According to the responses obtained through the KDQOL-SF, the situation at work and physical limitation scored worse. Sexual function (85.83) and encouragement by the team had the best performance. There were no differences in dimensions of questionnaire and treatment time. Conclusion: The presence of comorbidities and HD duration were not found to be possible factors for changing QoL in this study. However, we suggest that future studies evaluate other factors such as laboratory, emotional and functional data to check for changes in QoL in these patients related to HD duration.

Objetivo: avaliar a qualidade de vida de pessoas adultas com doença renal crônica em tratamento hemodialítico. Método: estudo descritivo, realizado em um município localizado no noroeste do estado do Paraná, Brasil. Os dados foram coletados no segundo semestre de 2016, utilizando instrumento adaptado e validado para avaliação da qualidade de vida de pessoas com deficiência renal crônica. Foi utilizado o teste de kruskal-wallis para tratamento das variáveis. Resultado: as dimensões genéricas com melhor avaliação foi o bem estar emocional e funcionamento físico. A dimensão função social foi a pior avaliada. Nas dimensões específicas o papel profissional, satisfação com a assistência e o sono, obtiveram as melhores avaliações. A função cognitiva, função sexual, suporte e qualidade da interação social, foram as piores avaliadas. Conclusão: o estudo sinaliza a importância de intervenções multiprofissionais para melhora do suporte e qualidade da interação social, função cognitiva e sexual de pessoas em tratamento hemodialítico.

Objective: To characterize the coping and quality of life profile of patients on kidney transplant waiting lists. Methods: Cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, which entailed interviews with patients over 18 years of age, able to read and write, and on a kidney transplant waiting list. Patients waiting for more than one organ were excluded. The results were presented using descriptive statistics -absolute and relative distribution (n -%), as well as central tendency and variability measurements. The data distribution of the continuous variables was analyzed by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. In the comparison of the relative scores of the styles and dimensions for quality of life between two independent groups, the Mann-Whitney U test was used. When the continuous variables were compared with the types of treatment (with number of cases over five), the Kruskal-Wallis post-hoc Dunn test was used. The linearity relationship between the scores of the Jalowiec Coping Scale (JCS) styles and the SF-36 dimensions was determined through the Spearman correlation coefficient. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 20.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA, 2008) for Windows. For the statistical decision criteria, a level of significance of 5% was adopted. Results: Of the total 58 patients, 30 (51.7%) were men, with a mean age of 44.6 (±15.2) years. The coping profile was self-reliant (42) and optimistic (6). The dimensions with the best quality of life were: pain (67.2%), social aspects (66.6) and mental health (65.4). There was a significant correlation (r<0.333) between the palliative style and vitality (r=-0.288; p=0.028) and the palliative style and social aspects (r=-0.283; p=0.031). There was also a significant correlation between general health status and the emotive (r=-0.424; p=0.025) and palliative styles (r=-0.524; p=0.004), as well as between vitality and the palliative style (r=-0.530; p=0.004).
