“…Costa et al 11 studied 46 Portuguese women treated at the University of Porto and showed a correlation between the expression of Cox-2 in the tumor and positive lymph node status, converging with the literature 6,10 . We found a positive association between Cox- 2 and positive clinical lymph node status, corroborating the data from those authors and those of Grudzinski et al 12 that found a positive association of expression with lymph nodes affected in patients from our country. These data emphasize the likely role of Cox-2 in the mechanisms lymphangiogenesis with disease dissemination, corroborating in vitro findings of stimulation of VEGF-C by Cox-2 13 .…”

“…Grudzinski et al [5] reported that the cases of breast cancer with COX-2-positive expression had shorter recurrence intervals of primary tumor than those with negative COX-2 expression, and COX-2 overexpression was an independent prognosis factor for primary recurrence. Meyer et al [23] reported that COX-2 expression predicted a high risk of disease recurrence in patients with localized primary stage p T1-2 malignant melanoma.…”

“…In contrast, COX-2 is an immediate-early response gene that is induced by a variety of stimuli [2]. Multiple studies have confirmed that high expression levels of COX-2 were closely related to the development and prognosis of many tumors [35]. …”

“…A expressão da COX-2 não está confinada ao componente epitelial do tumor; existe uma relação linear significativa entre a neovascularização e a expressão aumentada da COX-2. Sua expressão está associada a um prognóstico desfavorável 32 .  p53: O gene p53 codifica uma fosfoproteína nuclear de 53kD com atividade supressora de tumor.…”
