Abstract: The new uses of thalidomide are reviewed. It has recently been used as antinflammatory, immunosuppressive, antiangiogenic, and antiviral agent. Although its mechanism of action is not yet understood, the advantage of its use in several diseases, such as erythema nodosum leprosum, multiple myeloma, and graft-versus-host-disease is evident. Owing to its teratogenic properties, the use of thalidomide must be very well controlled. However, thalidomide has become a very important alternative, with new applications … Show more

“…The hypotheses include a reduction in the levels of the tumoral necrosis factor (TNF), the inhibition of interleukin-12, and the production and co-stimulation of CD8 lymphocytes, as well as the suppression of the mechanisms of phagocytosis. 6 , 7 In the reported case, thalidomide (100mg/day) was used for six weeks, with complete remission of the disease. The patient did not in the following 8 months and remains in follow-up at the dermatology out-patient clinic.…”

“…It involves the combination of separate pharmacophoric groups of analogous activity into one compound, causes substantial changes in the biological activity. Molecular hybridization is a structural modification strategy useful in the design of new optimized ligands and prototypes with new molecular architectures composed of two or more known bioactive derivatives, through the adequate fusion of these sub-unities [43][44][45][46][47][48].…”
