Evaluation of the influence of the polymer-filler interaction on compounds based on epoxidized elastomeric matrix and precipitated silica

Abstract: The introduction of epoxy groups into the main chain of elastomers has emerged as a promising alternative, considering the monitoring of polymer-filler interaction leading to changes in the properties of vulcanizates. The epoxidation reaction (in situ) was chosen to modify elastomers, such as polybutadiene (BR) and copolymer of styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR), because it is a simple, easily controlled reaction, even considering the small epoxidation degree. The modification degree of the polymeric chain was stu… Show more

“…Also, the choice of mixing sequence influences the phase structure and the dispersion of RHA, and hence it played a critical role in controlling the magnitudes of η* and G ′ for the RHA‐filled ENR‐25/TPU blends. Typically, the mobility and relaxation of a polymer molecule decrease with incorporation and dispersion of filler in the polymer matrix . Hence, the η* and G ′ of the filled materials increased due to flow resistance and stronger internal structure limiting molecular relaxation.…”

“…Furthermore, it is well known that rheological properties can change when fillers are incorporated in a polymer matrix, depending on the kind of filler and the way that it is incorporated. Thus, this knowledge is important to tailor polymer composites with potential applications in numerous technological fields [1][2][3][4][5] . Specifically in the rubber industry, silica is one of the reinforcing fillers widely used in compounds.…”
