Self-care agency and quality of life in the preoperative period of coronary artery bypass graft surgery * Extracted from the dissertation "Capacidade de autocuidado e qualidade de vida em indivíduos no pré-operatório de revascularização miocárdica", Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, 2013. To analyze basic self-care conditioning factors and quality of life associated with health, relating them to self-care capacity among individuals in the preoperative period of coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Method: Descriptive study with a quantitative approach, theoretically and methodologically anchored in the Self-care Deficit Nursing Theory. Data were collected between March and August 2013, using the Self-care Assessment Scale and the Medical Outcomes 36 Item Short Form Health Survey. Results: There was a correlation between self-care capacity and quality of life in the preoperative period of coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Conclusion: Among participants of this study, a reduction in quality of life may have occurred due to the presence of noncommunicable diseases; nevertheless, individuals sought the best ways to care for themselves. descriPtOrs Myocardial Revascularization; Self-Care; Quality of Life; Preoperative Care; Nursing Theory.
