Abstract: This study identifies the factors associated with death and readmission into the Intensive Care Unit. This is a longitudinal prospective study of 600 adult patients admitted in general Intensive Care Units of four hospitals in São Paulo, Brazil. The multiple regression analysis showed that patients with a longer length of stay and higher Nursing Activities Score, Simplified Acute Physiology Score II and Logistic Organ Dysfunction Score on the last day in the unit had a higher chance of death. “…Several national studies indicate that, as the average length of stay of patients, from one to six days, however, other investigations have already identified a longer average stay between 7.64 and 17 days. [19][20] Regarding the ICU discharge condition, it is evident that 42% of the total number of patients studied in the period, were nonsurvivors. The high mortality found is higher than that observed in Brazilian studies, with a variation of 20% to 35%.…”

A workday characterized by situations of stress as a result of understaffing, and therefore increased workloads for individual nurses, may increase the risk of unwanted medical incidents, and thus the quality of health services (6)(7)(8)(9) . The actual workload for ICU nurses, in our study named ICU-CCN, relates to the nurse responsible for daily care of patients.…”

“…There has been a significant increase in recent years in the use of NAS in clinical practice and in scientific studies (Lachance, Douville, Dallaire, Padilha, & Gallani, 2015) (Oliveira, Garcia, & Nogueira, 2016). There has also been recent growing interest in applying NAS to trauma victims (Nogueira, Domingues, Poggetti, & Sousa, 2014;Nogueira et al, 2015;Peng, Mayner, & Wang, 2014;Ragab, Torky, & Abdalla, 2013) and in predicting the continuity of care after leaving the ICU (Silva, Sousa, & Padilha, 2010, 2011.…”
