Hospital-based home care (HBHC) is widely applied in Pediatric Oncology. We reviewed the potential effect of HBHC on children's physical health and risk of adverse events, parental and child satisfaction, quality of life of children and their parents, and costs. A search of PubMed, CINAHL, and EMBASE led to identification of five studies that met the inclusion criteria. All sample sizes were small, and both the interventions and the outcome measures were diverse. Although burdened by these limitations, the studies indicate that HBHC is feasible and carries no crucial negative effects for children with cancer.

Convertirse en cuidador familiar de un niño con cáncer implica ejercer un nuevo rol, el cual se construye en la interacción con otros significativos. Objetivo. Integrar los hallazgos derivados de investigación que evidencian que el ser cuidador de un niño con cáncer denota un rol en transición. Materiales y métodos. Revisión integrativa de literatura que incluyó búsqueda sistemática de literatura, lectura crítica de las publicaciones, integración de hallazgos con apoyo en Atlas Ti versión 7 en un proceso de comparación constante; 46 artículos constituyeron el insumo para la revisión. Resultados. El cuidador del niño con cáncer pasa por una transición de su rol, la cual es de tipo salud – enfermedad, que se caracteriza por tener un patrón múltiple, simultáneo y relacionado. Con frecuencia el cuidador presenta insuficiencia de su rol durante la transición, por lo que intervenir sobre el conocimiento y preparación para el ejercicio del rol es clave. Los cuidadores familiares que han recibido apoyo para el ejercicio de su rol, mejoran sus habilidades para resolver problemas y conocimientos acerca del cuidado, lo que impacta en su calidad de vida, estado de ánimo y resultados de salud en su receptor de cuidados. Conclusión. Se requieren intervenciones para mejorar las condiciones de transición en el rol del cuidador de niño con cáncer, preparar al cuidador para ejercer su rol con suficiencia mejora sus resultados y los de su receptor de cuidados.

On the same line, Gelesson et al, (2016) who conducted a study on 11 caregivers of children with cancer at chemotherapy outpatient clinic of the pediatric oncology institute of Sao Paulo, Brazil and indicated that, family caregivers of cancer patients had lack of knowledge and needed orientations about the disease. Also National Comprehensive Cancer Network, (2016) which reported that, family caregivers had lack of knowledge of acute leukemia in children undergoing chemotherapy.…”
