Objectives:To assess an in situ simulation-based cardiopulmonary resuscitation training strategy, with emphasis on debriefing and follow-up assessment of knowledge after training. Method:This was an educational intervention study to measure intraparticipant variability. The simulation-based teaching techniques consisted of nine steps.This research followed STROBE recommendations for the methodological development of observational studies, "See Supplementary File 1".Results: Significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed between the pre-test and post-theory assessments, and between the prepractical phase and 60 days post-training. However, no differences were observed (p<0.05) between the post-theory and post-practical phases, showing that after participating in the training strategy, after the pre-test assessment, the participants seemed to have carried over the knowledge displayed in the post-theory to the post-practical time, with considerable reduction in performance 60 days after the training program. Conclusion:Theoretical emphasis coupled with simulation practice displayed the best results in performance when compared to theoretical training alone, even at 60 days post-training.

The study aims to analyze the knowledge of nursing staff on the recognition of a cerebral cardiopulmonary arrest (CCPA) and about the cerebral cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR). This is a cross-sectional study with quantitative approach developed in a public Hospital located in northeastern Brazil. Data collection occurred through a semi-structured questionnaire with 110 professionals of medium-high level of nursing. Approved by the Research Ethics Committee CAAE: 15504613.2.0000.5537. In relation to the recognition of PCRC, (81.8%) of professionals have identified appropriate form; (80%) answered correctly about the sequence of the CPR; (77.2%)got the compression/ventilation ratio; (61.8%) know about the need prioritizing chest compressions;(51.8%) responded adequately on body posture for realization of the compressions; only (40%) succeeded in their responses when asked about the depth and frequency of compressions. The nursing staff analyzed presented knowledge still disabled on the changes of the guidelines of the American Heart Association of 2010 thus exists the need urgent training that reduce the failures and delays that compromise a quality care.

Aim: This study was carried out so as to determine nurses' knowledge level about CPR and to analyse the effect of the given training on the knowledge level about CPR through pre-and after-patterned tests employed on the same group. Material and Methods: The study was conducted between June and August in 2012 with 108 nurses working in the internal, surgery, emergency and intensive care units at a State Hospital. The data was collected by the questionnaire form. The training course about CPR was given within three-stage (visual presentation, training brochure, applied training on models). The effect of the education was re-evaluated after six weeks via questionnaire. Percentage distributions, T-Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test, Ki-Kare Analysis and Wilcoxon Test were used for evaluating the data. Results: It was determined in the study that 32 % of the nurses applied CPR before, 39.8 % participated in in-service training and 35.2 % took the information from doctors when in-service training hadn't given to them. It was also found that age, sex, marital status and education status had no significant effect on nurses' correct answer average relating to CPR. The difference (p<0.05) in the correct answer average of the nurses working in interior, surgery and emergency units before and after the training was found very important and the questionnaire results (p>0.05) in the correct answer average of the nurses working in intensive care unit before and after the training were found considerably insignificant. A statistically significant increase was found in terms of the chest compression speed and depth, basic life support ranking (C-A-B), ventilation, and pulse evaluation duration after the training was completed. Conclusions: As a result of the study, the correct answer average of the nurses about CPR was found to be high after training. These findings show that nurses' knowledge together with their abilities on CPR should be updated via in-service training programs and these programs should be repeated periodically.
