Objective: This study aimed to characterize the national scientific evidence of the last ten years about Florence Nightingale and the vital power and its applicability in nursing, and identify the concepts of vital power. Methods: It is an integrative review of the full national literature articles, through four databases. Seven articles were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Analysis of the issues on the legacy of Florence and the action of the internal and external environment on the vital power emerged. Results: Most studies focused on the environment of inclusion of the individual as the vital power and strengthen this classified as inner strength. Conclusion: Nursing professionals play an essential role in observing about keeping the environment where the patient is inserted, favoring the strengthening of the vital power, highlighting the presence of the companion as strengthening this vital power in the hospitalization process. Descriptors RESUMENObjetivo: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo caracterizar la evidencia científica nacional en los últimos diez años acerca de Florence Nightingale y la potencia vital y su aplicabilidad en la enfermería e identificar los conceptos de poder vital. Método: És una revisión integradora en la totalidad los artículos nacionales de literatura, a través de cuatro bases de datos. Seleccionados siete artículos después de aplicar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. El análisis los temas la herencia de Florence la acción del entorno interno y externo la potencia vital surgió. Resultados: La mayoría de los estudios se centraron como la energía vital y fortalecer esta clasificado como fuerza interior. Conclusión: Enfermería desempeñan un papel esencial en la observación acerca de mantener el medio ambiente en que se inserta el paciente lo que favorece el fortalecimiento la potencia vital, destacando la presencia la pareja como el fortalecimiento en la hospitalización. Sabe-se que toda intervenção cirúrgica está sujeita à ocorrência de processos infecciosos e que a pele do paciente é uma das fontes de infecção, tornando, portanto, a antissepsia do campo operatório de cães e gatos um procedimento indispensável. A infecção do sítio cirúrgico (ISC) pode se manifestar em até um ano após a realização do procedimento do cirúrgico, sendo uma das principais causas de morbidade e mortalidade de pacientes no pós-operatório. A antissepsia é definida como o ato de eliminar micro-organismos existentes nas camadas superficiais e profundas da pele, mediante aplicação de um agente germicida hipoalergênico, de baixa causticidade passível de ser aplicado em tecido vivo. Diversas soluções antissépticas podem ser utilizadas na antissepsia cutânea. Os produtos mais utilizados são o álcool a 70%, iodopovidona 10% e o gluconato de clorexidina alcoólica 0,5% e a 2% que podem ser encontrados em formulações aquosa, alcoólica e degermante. Diante das informações descritas e tendo em vista a importância da prevenção de infecções cirúrgicas na medicina veterinária objetiva-se com este trabalho fazer um levantamento bibliográfico sobre a antissepsia como medida profilática de infecções no pós-operatório de pequenos animais.

We celebrate, in 2010, the centenary of the death of Florence Nightingale and to commemorate this historical fact, the United Nations have proposed the "International Year of the Nurse", as an initiative to "give credit to the voices, values and knowledge of these professionals", past and present, who have demonstrated how individual and collective actions can make the "world more healthy and dignified" (1)(2) .An important instrument for the mobilization of nurses worldwide, for the success of this recognition, was the "Nightingale Declaration for Our Healthy World", signed by millions of nurses, educators, professionals and caregivers in the area of health worldwide, including Brazil. This movement has continuity, since the declaration will also be used as the cornerstone of a long term, global campaign for the "Mobilization of Public Opinion on Health of Nations", necessary to achieve the goal of a healthy world by 2020, the year that will commemorate the bicentennial of the birth of Florence Nightingale.Florence Nightingale has been revered for decades for her contributions to knowledge, education and the practice of nursing, as well as for her health care reforms. In the case of Statistics, she considered it essential to understand social problems and sought to introduce the study of this branch of knowledge to justify her conclusions in the health field, for example, using the graphical illustration to present the results of her researchIt is undeniable that her contributions to human health remain relevant and current. In the book Notes on Nursing, published in 1859, the editor states that "what remains true and current is the essence of the book", i.e. the fundamentals of Florence regarding the need for cleanliness in the water, the air, the environments, the people and clothes; for silence, light and order in the room of the sick and in the nurse, "intelligence, rationality, sensitivity and decency, the ability to show real interest in the patient". In conclusion the editor mentions the fact that such knowledge "will never be considered outdated" (4) . Notes on Nursing is not a manual of techniques, but rather a work that presents the fundamentals of nursing, these fundamentals are supported in a permanent reflection about care and ways of preserving health (4) . Florence said that human beings have a vital power and carried out assistance in order to potentiate it.According to Florence, in the true ABC of the education of a nurse, the "A" should be the knowledge about what a sick human being is, the "B" is to know how to behave with a sick person and the "C" is to know that your patient is a sick human being, not an animal (4) .
