Introduction: Play has become an object of study in various sectors of society, as it is viewed as an innate, spontaneous activity that is critical for a child's physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, which facilitates communication, socialisation and adaptation to environments and people. During hospitalisation, children feel vulnerable as they have to cope with strange carers, invasive and painful procedures. Barriers to their regular activities tend to make the situation worse. Objectives: To describe the child's view of his/her playfulness in the hospital environment and investigate the social representation of a hospital playroom for children exposed to the story-drawing technique. Methods: This qualitative exploratory research used storydrawing as a tool for data collection with a sample of 12 children aged 6 to 11 years, while they were hospitalised. Data analysis was supported by a literature review and direct observation, which allowed the researchers to draw relationships between theory, the research hypotheses and the data collected. Findings: The children's construction and representation of playfulness while in hospital was directly related to the playroom, since most of them reported not conceiving of the possibility to play in bed or elsewhere in the hospital. Soon the playroom was further viewed as a place for socialising and recovering from illness as they approximated this environment to their reality in an attempt to make it a closest-as-possible representation of their homes. It was observed that play changed the children's preconceived ideas of the hospital, as they began to view the playroom as an environment in which they felt able to play and consequently well. Their story-drawings contextualised symbolically their current hospitalisation situation and became a scaffolding tool for their emotional well-being. Conclusions: The playroom can effectively aid hospitalised children to cope better with the new situation and support the restoration of their health. Play is an emotionally protective factor for children during hospitalisation. Although in Brazil it is now mandatory for health institutions to have a playroom with paediatric care, this breakthrough policy is still challenging for some institutions with respect to being staffed with engaged health professionals and establishing routine procedures.

Pesquisa desenvolvida em três Centrais de Materiais e Esterilização para investigação da prática gerencial do enfermeiro, face os recursos humanos. É parte da dissertação de mestrado cujos objetivos foram identificar o significado da prática gerencial em CME, descrever seu processo, e construir um modelo teórico sobre gerenciamento de recursos humanos. Estudo de natureza qualitativa no qual participaram enfermeiros de três hospitais públicos do Rio de Janeiro. Utilizamos como referenciais o Interacionismo Simbólico e a Teoria Fundamentada nos Dados. Baseadas nos dados coletados e realidades de cada CME encontram cinco categorias, além do fenômeno central. Processo de atuação básica dos enfermeiros está atrelado à experiência na gerência de pessoal, conhecimento do processo de trabalho e ciência de suas realidades.

This work describes the experience of constructing a story book with the objective of helping health professionals and families to share with children less than 5 years about their diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. The book tells the story of Lola, a child who discovers she has cystic fibrosis and creates an imaginary monster as a representation of the disease. The experience emerged out of professional practice in an outpatient multidisciplinary service for these patients, translating the importance of reconciling theory and practice, and interdisciplinarity for the construction of innovative and creative strategies in the development of comprehensive care. Keywords: Cystic fibrosis; Health education; Child; Narration resumo Este trabalho descreve a experiência da construção de um livro de história com o objetivo de auxiliar profissionais de saúde e familiares a contarem para crianças menores de 5 anos sobre seu diagnóstico de Fibrose Cística. O livro traz a história de Lola, uma criança que descobre que tem Fibrose Cística e cria um monstro imaginário como representação da doença. A experiência emergida da prática profissional em um ambulatório multiprofissional de atendimento a esses pacientes, traduz a importância de conciliar teoria e prática, além da interdisciplinaridade para a construção de estratégias inovadoras e criativas no desenvolvimento do cuidado integral. La experiencia emergida de la práctica profesional en un consultorio externo multiprofesional de atención a esos pacientes, traduce la importancia de conciliar la teoría y la práctica, además de la interdisciplinaridad para la construcción de estrategias innovadoras y creativas en el desarrollo del cuidado integral.
