Objective: To assess the impact of surgical treatment in the sexuality of the obese.Methods: We conducted a qualitative / quantitative research with 30 patients who had undergone Fobi-Capella Roux-Y gastric bypass for at least one year. We collected data through individual interviews using a questionnaire with 10 mixed questions and one open, between May and June 2011. The objective data were quantified in absolute numbers and percentages, and the subjective ones were analyzed using the Discourse of the Collective Subject (DCS) and discussed in view of reference published on the subject.Results: 30 patients were enrolled, with a mean age 44 ± 12 years, 24 (80%) were female and six (20%) were male, 23 (77%) were married, 23 (96%) were hypertensive and eight (33%) were diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus. After the operation, 11 (37%) individuals reported no change in the number sexual intercourses, but 19 (63%) reported that this number was altered, 16 (53%) informed increased frequency, one (3%) reported a decrease in frequency, one (3%) did not practice sexual intercourse anymore and one (3%) did not report the frequency. The central ideas (CI) raised originated four DCSs: Experience of female sexuality; No experience of female sexuality; Experience of male sexuality; and improvements of comorbidities and psychological factor.Conclusion: there are positive repercussions of physical and emotional orders of the surgical treatment of obesity, favoring the quality of life, including sexuality.

Purpose: To describe life changes among women with acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Methods: The study was conducted in Fortaleza, CE with 10 women from December 2004 to March 2005. Data were collected through taped interviews regarding women oral history of their physical alterations, changes in daily life and life-style, and experiences with sexuality. Results: Data were organized by themes. Women verbalized difficulties and conflicts regarding the need to hide the diagnosis of acquired immune deficiency syndrome because of prejudice and shame, constant expectation of death, alterations of their body, life-style change, altered sexuality, feeling guilty, stigma and prejudice regarding the disease. Conclusions: The findings suggest that women considered the stigmatization changes. There is a need for health care services that promote support to women with acquired immune deficiency syndrome and their family to cope with the diagnosis and its management. RESUMOObjetivo: Apreender as alterações vivenciadas pelas mulheres portadoras de Síndrome Imunodeficiência Adquirida em decorrência da infecção. Métodos: Realizado em Fortaleza-CE, no período de dezembro de 2004 a março de 2005 com dez mulheres, utilizando-se entrevista gravada na modalidade de história oral temática, abrangendo alterações físicas; mudanças no cotidiano e no estilo de vida; e vivenciando a sexualidade. Resultados: Os dados foram organizados em temáticas e as mulheres relataram dificuldades e conflitos tais como: a necessidade de ocultar o diagnóstico por medo de preconceito, vergonha, a relação constante com a morte, as alterações no corpo, as mudanças no estilo de vida, a sexualidade alterada, as culpas auto-atribuídas, o estigma e a discriminação enfrentados. Conclusão: As mulheres consideram as mudanças estigmatizantes e recomendou-se que os serviços promovam um ambiente de apoio para essas mulheres e sua família, mediante desenvolvimento de estratégias passíveis de ajudá-las no enfrentamento do vírus da imunodeficiência humana/Aids. This study departs from the assumption that studies addressing sexuality in the field of nursing present changes and broaden the scope of discussion to include gender and sexual rights, although a strong tendency to link sexuality to its biological aspects is still observed.This study identifies the state-of-the-art of studies addressing sexuality published by two international journals: Latin American Journal of Nursing and The Brazilian Journal of Nursing. The sources were papers published in both periodicals over a period of ten years (from 1998 to 2007). In a universe of 1,894 searched abstracts, 29 mentioned the word 'sexuality'. The results confirm this study's assumption showing that the studies addressing sexuality from the perspective of nursing published by these two journals broaden the understanding on the subject as they incorporate categories such as gender, but also excessively link sexuality to its biological aspects. Enfermería y sexualidad: revisión integradora de artículos publicados en la Revista Latino Americana de Enfermería y en la Revista Brasileña de EnfermeríaEsta investigación partió del supuesto de que los estudios sobre sexualidad realizados por la Enfermería presentan cambios y amplían la perspectiva sobre la realidad al incluir género y derechos sexuales, a pesar de que permanezca una fuerte tendencia en la vinculación de la sexualidad a sus aspectos biológicos. El objetivo del estudio fue identificar el estado del arte de las publicaciones sobre sexualidad en dos periódicos de circulación internacional: Revista Latino Americana de Enfermería/RLAE y Revista Brasileña de Enfermería/REBEn. Las fuentes fueron artículos publicados en ambos periódicos en el período de diez años (1998 a 2007). En un universo de 1894 resúmenes consultados fueron identificados 29 que contenían en el título, palabras clave o el resumen de la palabra sexualidad. Los resultados confirman el supuesto del estudio demostrando que la producción sobre sexualidad por la Enfermería divulgada en esos dos periódicos, al mismo tiempo en que amplía la comprensión sobre la temática al incorporar categorías como género, mantiene la vinculación excesiva de la sexualidad a sus aspectos biológicos.Descriptores: Sexualidad; Educación en Enfermería; Identidad de Género.
