Prevenir a violência: um desafio para profissionais de saúde

Abstract

A violência tem sido responsável por uma demanda crescente de atendimento nos serviços públicos de saúde, onde a entrada de crianças e adolescentes é tragicamente grande. São vítimas de diferentes tipos de violência direta: do trânsito, brigas e conflitos nas comunidades, assaltos e maus-tratos familiares. Os maus-tratos identificados como fraturas, queimaduras etc. têm levado à morte ou incapacidades e são também responsáveis por stress, fobias e ainda outras seqüelas. Para os profissionais da saúde esse problema não é novo, pois vivenciam essa dura realidade no dia-a-dia dos ambulatórios, postos ou nas emergências, onde a precariedade de recursos para um melhor atendimento é mais um agravante. No entanto, grande parte dos casos de maustratos que chegam aos serviços de saúde não é identificada, e a maior barreira é de ordem médica, expressa pelo medo ou recusa do profissional de se envolver com o que é considerado problema "alheio" e reforçada culturalmente como "um problema de família".
