Objective: To analyze the association between filial responsibility and the overload of the children when caring for their older parents. Method: Cross-sectional study with 100 caregiver children of older adults. Filial liability was assessed by the attitudes of the responsible child (scale of expectation and filial duty) and by care behaviors (assistance in activities of daily living, emotional and financial support, and keeping company). The overload was assessed by the Caregiver Burden Inventory. To assess the associations, the correlation coefficients of Pearson and Spearman, Kruskal-Wallis Test, and Mann-Whitney were employed. Variables that presented p-value<0.20 in the bivariate analysis were inserted in a multivariate linear regression model. Results: The factors associated with overload were: formal employment (p=0.002), feelings regarding family life (p<0.001), financial support (p=0.027), and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) (p<0.001). Conclusion: Children who were more involved with the ADLs and provided financial support showed higher levels of overload.

RESUMO Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a associação entre suporte percebido e recebido e a expectativa de cuidado com as variáveis sociodemográficas, condições de saúde e funcionalidade dos idosos da comunidade do município de Várzea Grande, no estado de Mato Grosso. Trata-se de uma pesquisa transversal, realizada com 348 idosos. A coleta de dados foi efetivada por entrevistas, utilizando-se de um instrumento com questões sociodemográficas; estado de saúde; funcionalidade; e rede de suporte percebido e recebido. As análises foram realizadas pelos testes do Qui-quadrado ou Exato de Fisher. O suporte social foi avaliado positivamente entre os idosos, reconhecendo a família como principal provedora, principalmente as mulheres. A expectativa do cuidado foi associada ao cônjuge, por gênero, idade, estado civil e arranjo familiar, principalmente às filhas ou noras, enquanto os irmãos e o profissional pago foram pouco mencionados. Na velhice, há uma dependência maior do suporte, em razão da saúde e da incapacidade, entretanto, há uma tendência da redução da rede de apoio na idade avançada. É importante desenvolver estratégias de atenção aos idosos e cuidadores familiares. Espera-se que este estudo subsidie a implementação de ações de cuidados aos idosos.

Relationship between elderly stroke patient caregivers scale and nursing diagnoses

Objective: To describe relationships between the ECPICID-AVC scale factors and the NANDA-I domains, classes, and Nursing Diagnoses (NDs). Method: Cross-mapping study between the NANDA-I taxonomy and ECPICID-AVC scale was constructed based on the eight ECPICID-AVC scale factors and the 13 NANDA-I domains. A descriptive analysis was performed to present the mapped elements. Results: Areas of similarity and intersection were found between the eight ECPICID-AVC factors and nine NANDA-I domains, 19 classes, and 72 NDs. All scale factors were mapped with the Domain 1/Health Promotion, Class 2/Health Management and the ND “Frail elderly syndrome”. Final considerations: The ECPICID-AVC scale factors were mapped with nine domains, their classes and diagnoses. This study demonstrates the importance of identifying nursing diagnoses and their relationship with factors that evaluate caregiving capacity. The ECPICID-AVC can help nurses generate nursing diagnoses regarding the caregiver’s needs and their capacities related to care to focus such needs.
