The present work offers a study exploring University of Seville students' cultural participation and how often they attend live flamenco shows. Based on the statistical yearbook of this university, a sample of 452 students from different fields was selected and, by applying a questionnaire, a binomial logit model and an ordered finance model were constructed. Our empirical findings offer descriptive, explanatory and predictive statistical results regarding participation and frequency. For example, the results evidence that 43% of the University of Seville students have never attended a live flamenco show and that one of the main issues influencing attendance is human and cultural capital.

Economic Impacts of the Vale-Cultura (Culture Voucher): A Computable General Equilibrium Model

The aim of this study is to analyze the impacts of the voucher system Vale-Cultura in the Brazilian cultural sector and in the economy in general. The methodology applied is the Brazilian Recursive Dynamic General Equilibrium model (BRIDGE). Our simulations found that GDP growth is driven mainly by the increase in household consumption. There is a positive variation in welfare, assessed by the equivalent and compensating variations in income for beneficiaries of the vouchers. Indirect and production taxes are positively affected because of the various effects on the economy, which partly makes up for the government transfers to companies via tax waiver. Finally, a positive growth is projected at the level of activity of cultural sectors and negative growth in others, showing a reallocation of productive factors.

This article aims to determine which variables have effect on the attendance frequency to live flamenco shows. Firstly we have done interviews to flamenco and music industry experts to achieve new-fangled variables in our analysis. Secondly, these variables were valued by flamenco consumers through surveys. Afterwards, with these data, we used a methodology based on different econometric models to obtain the coefficients of the variables. The results show how variables such as educational level, the way the music is listened or the valuation of the performer, amongst others, have an influence on the attendance frequency to flamenco live shows. The article contributes to the scarce empirical literature relating attendance frequency determinants to traditional popular genres by adding never studied before variables, focusing on the flamenco case.
