A study of <FONT FACE=Symbol>á</FONT>v2<FONT FACE=Symbol>ñ</FONT> with NeXSPheRIO

Abstract: Elliptic flow at RHIC is computed event by event with NeXSPheRIO. Reasonable agreement with experimental data on v 2 (η) and v 2 (pt) is obtained. Various effects are studied as well: equation of state (with or without critical point), emission mechanism (Cooper-Frye prescription or continuous emission), type of the initial conditions (average or fluctuating initial conditions).

“…Assuming a negligible non-flow component in equation 16, it is possible to take the difference v 2 {2} 2 − v 2 {4} 2 as an estimate of the absolute flow fluctuation. An estimate for the relative flow fluctuation can also be defined by using the equations 14 and 15 as:…”

“…Furthermore, two or more particle correlations may carry important information on the initial state, hence on the mechanism of QCD dynamics at the very early stage of the collision. Recent studies [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] show that a scenario including fluctuations of the initial condition in addition to the geometrical eccentricity describes better the experimental data than without the inclusion of initial state fluctuations. These fluctuations in the initial condition will affect the eccentricity by changing the average value and also by introducing an additional fluctuation which will then affect the final observed v 2 values.…”

“…In the soft transverse momentum region (p t < ∼ 2 GeV/c) measurements at mid-rapidity are found to be well described by hydrodynamical models [7,8]. By contrast, differential measurement of the pseudo-rapidity dependence of elliptic flow and its excitation function have resisted several attempts at a description in terms of hydrodynamical models (but see their description by the SPHERIO model [9,10] or the approximate descriptions in refs. [11,12]).…”
