-The objective of this work was to estimate cardinal temperatures and phyllochron for the leaf development of the eucalyptus species Corymbia citriodora and Eucalyptus urophylla, in the seedling phase. A field experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 2x11 factorial arrangement, with the two eucalyptus species, 11 sowing dates, and five replicates, in the municipality of Itajubá, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The cardinal temperatures -base, optimum, and maximum -for leaf development were, respectively, 8.7, 17.1, and 41.3°C, for C. citriodora, and 11.5, 17.1, and 40.5°C for E. urophylla. The phyllochron of C. citriodora was 62.95°C day per leaf, and that of E. urophylla was 46.03°C day per leaf, which indicates that E. urophylla requires less energy accumulation than C. citriodora for leaf emission in the main stem.Index terms: air temperature, leaf emission rate, phyllochron, seedling quality, thermal requirement. Temperaturas cardinais para o desenvolvimento foliar de mudas de Corymbia citriodora e Eucalyptus urophyllaResumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar as temperaturas cardinais e o filocrono para o desenvolvimento foliar das espécies de eucalipto Corymbia citriodora e Eucalyptus urophylla, durante a fase de muda. Um experimento de campo foi realizado em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 2x11, com as duas espécies de eucalipto, 11 épocas de semeadura e cinco repetições, em Itajubá, MG. As temperaturas cardinais -basal inferior, ótima e basal superior -para o desenvolvimento foliar foram, respectivamente, 8,7, 17,1 e 41,3°C, para C. citriodora, e 11,5, 17,1 e 40,5°C, para E. urophylla. O filocrono de C. citriodora foi de 62,95°C dia por folha, e o de E. urophylla, de 46,03°C dia por folha, o que é indício de que E. urophylla necessita de menor acúmulo energético do que C. citriodora para a emissão de folhas na haste principal.Termos para indexação: temperatura do ar, taxa de emissão foliar, filocrono, qualidade de mudas, necessidade térmica.

A temperatura basal inferior (Tb) é uma variável de entrada muito utilizada em modelos que quantificam o desenvolvimento de culturas agrícolas e florestais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a Tb para o desenvolvimento vegetativo na fase de muda, para duas cultivares de oliveira, Grappolo e Maria da Fé, em condições de campo. O estudo foi desenvolvido na área Experimental da Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Minas Gerais, em Maria da Fé, MG, Brasil, conduzido sob o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, sendo duas cultivares de oliveira, três épocas de transplantio, e quinze repetições. A Tb foi estimada através de seis métodos, cujos valores obtidos variaram em função do método de cálculo utilizado. A Tb estimada foi de 9,6 ºC para a Grappolo e 6,9 ºC para a Maria da Fé. The experiment was carried out in the experimental area of the Agricultural Research Corporation of Minas Gerais, in Maria da Fé, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized with two olive cultivars, three transplanting dates and fifteen repetitions. The Tb was estimated by six methods described in literature, whose values varied depending on each method of calculation. The estimated Tb was 9.6 ºC for Grappolo and 6.9 ºC to Maria da Fé, respectively.

Heat accumulation period in the Mediterranean region: phenological response of the olive in different climate areas (Spain, Italy and Tunisia)

The main characteristics of the heat accumulation period and the possible existence of different types of biological response to the environment in different populations of olive through the Mediterranean region have been evaluated. Chilling curves to determine the start date of the heat accumulation period were constructed and evaluated. The results allow us to conclude that the northern olive populations have the greatest heat requirements for the development of their floral buds, and they need a period of time longer than olives in others areas to completely satisfy their biothermic requirements. The olive trees located in the warmest winter areas have a faster transition from endogenous to exogenous inhibition once the peak of chilling is met, and they show more rapid floral development. The lower heat requirements are due to better adaptation to warmer regions. Both the threshold temperature and the peak of flowering date are closely related to latitude. Different types of biological responses of olives to the environment were found. The adaptive capacity shown by the olive tree should be considered as a useful tool with which to study the effects of global climatic change on agro-ecosystems.
