As informações sobre a biologia e a ecologia da espécie Anacardium giganteum W. Hancock ex Engl são necessárias à ampliação do conhecimento sobre a estrutura populacional, ao uso da espécie como um recurso genético, ao desenvolvimento de estratégias para a conservação genética e para o manejo da espécie em áreas naturais. Foi avaliada a biologia floral de A. giganteum, através da descrição morfológica das flores, da atividade floral e do comportamento dos visitantes florais. Registrou-se visitantes por espécie para verificar possíveis polinizadores e calculou-se a sua frequência e abundância. A espécie apresentou variações no número de estames férteis e de pétalas. A antese foi diurna, com alteração na posição do pistilo e estame, e na cor das flores, onde esta não é efeito da polinização. A flor hermafrodita durou cerca de 72 h, e a masculina cerca de 24 h. Obteve-se 2.876 visitas e em média 230,40 visitas por inflorescência por árvore, sendo 28 espécies de 13 famílias distribuídas em 4 ordens; entre estas, as abelhas foram as prováveis polinizadoras de cajuaçu. Infere-se que a mudança de coloração das flores está relacionada com a sua longevidade ou como mecanismo de atração aos polinizadores. A morfologia das flores permite verificar uma possível relação entre os tipos e tamanho dos visitantes florais. A antese floral e a atividade dos visitantes florais são processos concomitantes e concentram-se no período da manhã, de 6-12 h, não havendo visitantes florais noturnos.

Cajui (Anacardium spp.) is a native fruit tree (small cashew) of the Brazilian Cerrado and possesses the potential for commercialization. However, cajui exploitation occurs exclusively through extractivism in the absence of conservation strategies. The lack of conservation strategies may lead to a decrease in genetic diversity of Anacardium. In this work, the genetic diversity and population structure of three natural populations in Sete Cidades National Park (PNSC; PI, Brazil) were assessed using ISSR analysis of 56 cajui accessions and two A. occidentale accessions (outgroup) from Pacajus (CE, Brazil). A total of 112 markers were obtained, 93 (83.04%) of which were polymorphic. The diversity indices of these populations indicated moderate levels of genetic diversity. According to AMOVA, 96.17% of the genetic variability lay within populations, with low genetic differentiation among populations (ΦST = 0.03828). Furthermore, STRUCTURE analysis indicated the existence of four connected genetic groups. The findings show that the individuals from the three collection sites did not represent different subpopulations, likely due to the high gene flow (Nm = 6.7) favored by the floral biology of Anacardium, pollinators and small-animal seed dispersers. This research identifies genetically divergent individuals (C-03, C-05, C-22, C-26, C-34 and C-39), which should be considered priority individuals for conservation and can inform conservation programs for Anacardium spp.

Knowledge about the effects of fire on sexual reproduction of Cerrado woody species is fundamental for elaborating public policies and management plans for its conservation. The present study evaluated the effect of a controlled burning on flowering and fruiting of Anacardium humile in an Cerrado stricto sensu environment, in Cavalcante, GO. An area with no fire records for five years was submitted to controlled burning in May 2016, used as the experimental area and its adjacent areas protected from fire as control area. In each area, 16 reproductive individuals were selected and their production of floral buds, flowers and fruits, followed up for 17 months. In 2016 the production of reproductive structures was higher in the control area, since the majority of individuals of the burned area invested in the recovery of vegetative structures (branches) damaged by fire. Only three individuals flowered in the burned area in 2016 and presented greater effort in the production of buds and flowers per panicle than the individuals in the control area, however, the fruit set was equal between the areas. One year after fire, the production of reproductive structures became equal between areas. The control area presented higher fruit production in 2017 in comparison to 2016, indicating a variable pattern in annual fruit production. The impact of fire on the reproductive structures of A. humile is greater in the same year of fire and its reproductive potential can be normalized in the subsequent year.
